Las series documentales conservadas en los archivos eclesiásticos conforman un vastísimo corpus imprescindible para el avance del conocimiento histórico de la música sacra hispánica. Entre dichas series se encuentran, como asiento propio, los libros denominados de fechos y negocios donde se atesoran los acuerdos con que los cabildos resolvían múltiples aspectos institucionales, entre ellos los relacionados con la música y los músicos de su capilla. Continuando con la metodología de los tres volúmenes anteriores, la heterogeneidad de las fuentes originales de este periodo (1811-1880) ha obligado al autor a realizar un cribado, auto por auto, de los más de sesenta y cuatro volúmenes examinados. La transcripción de los documentos ha quedado fielmente ajustada a la normalización internacional; en ella se conservan particularidades y expresiones –hoy en desuso– del texto original, todo ello actualizado, en este caso, a la ortografía de llegada. El texto incluye algunas instantáneas sobre aspectos históricos o sociales, añadidos por su interés contextual. En definitiva, el volumen es una herramienta que facilita enormemente la búsqueda inicial y ofrece un sustrato informativo veraz y fiable, de gran utilidad para cualquier investigación relacionada.
