Excerpt from Dogs, Birds and Others: Natural History Letters From "the Spectator"; Chosen, With an Introduction and Notes Part of the pleasure of these letters is in their freedom from professionalism, from the grand air, from a dull literary foppishness, and any advertising of an escape from the ordinary. I was reading some old country letters published about eighty years ago, and one Of them began, Cobbett-wise, Let those rocks alone, boy - real literary music. Many of these letters are in this transparent manner, plain tales of things seen, and no nonsense. Having something definite and interesting to share with others less fortunate, they tell it out and achieve style without a thought of it, as the artist achieves personality by losing it in the absorption of his subject Lose that the lost thou may'st receive, which is sound literary criticism. Two Dogs and a Parrot presents both heartwarming stories and thought-provoking reflections about sharing life with an animal companion. The relationships we form --with dogs, birds, cats, horses, rabbits, and other pets --are full of joys and rewards. Their personalities, their intelligence, their feelings draw us out of ourselves and make us aware of another whole level of what it means to be alive. They teach us to cherish life's pleasures and to deal with its struggles. They show us the importance of being able to accept ourselves and to have empathy for others. They help us to find purpose and meaning in what we do and to overcome challenges and setbacks. In our companion animals we observe varying degrees of excitement and play, of love and fear. We see them court adventure and give themselves fully to enjoyment. And we realize their beautiful uniqueness, their sensitivities, and strong sense of purpose.A loving human-animal relationship is built on mutual care and concern, on mutual responsibility and respect. We become a part of each other's existence. And we grow as human beings if we learn to listen to the animals. We begin to understand that we are here as part of creation, not as consumers of it. We are here to care for this planet, not to exploit it. We are here to find our proper place in nature, to grow with it physically as well as spiritually.Whether we have an animal companion, wish to live with a pet or know someone who does, or cherish the animal world and nature, Two Dogs and a Parrot will speak to us all. It illuminates the significance of the deep bond between humans and animals and invites us to embrace and celebrate our animal friends

Wild Dog Dreaming written by Deborah Bird Rose and has been published by University of Virginia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-04 with Literary Criticism categories.

We are living in the midst of the Earth's sixth great extinction event, the first one caused by a single species: our own. In Wild Dog Dreaming, Deborah Bird Rose explores what constitutes an ethical relationship with nonhuman others in this era of loss. She asks, Who are we, as a species? How do we fit into the Earth's systems? Amidst so much change, how do we find our way into new stories to guide us? Rose explores these questions in the form of a dialogue between science and the humanities. Drawing on her conversations with Aboriginal people, for whom questions of extinction are up-close and very personal, Rose develops a mode of exposition that is dialogical, philosophical, and open-ended. An inspiration for Rose--and a touchstone throughout her book--is the endangered dingo of Australia. The dingo is not the first animal to face extinction, but its story is particularly disturbing because the threat to its future is being actively engineered by humans. The brazenness with which the dingo is being wiped out sheds valuable, and chilling, light on the likely fate of countless other animal and plant species. "People save what they love," observed Michael Soul , the great conservation biologist. We must ask whether we, as humans, are capable of loving--and therefore capable of caring for--the animals and plants that are disappearing in a cascade of extinctions. Wild Dog Dreaming engages this question, and the result is a bold account of the entangled ethics of love, contingency, and desire.

This book is an attempt to take you all through a heartfelt and wonderful journey of stray dogs and birds. It is based on true incidents in the lives of stray dogs and birds. All the dog and bird lovers around the world will enjoy reading this heartfelt story. Book is designed to take you all through a series of stories into the lives of most invaluable stray dogs and birds. They beautifully touched the life of my sister Tina and others around her. A journey full of fun, emotions, separation, loss, anger, laughter, surprises, shocks, jealousy, possessiveness, loyalty, sacrifices, learning and lot more! A book for all ages! My sister Tina has been very close to stray dogs, animals and birds. She has been my inspiration to write this book. Tina's job took her around places that were countryside, giving her the great opportunity to connect with several stray dogs, animals and birds. I would frequently call my sister Tina about her work and the city she was visiting. Often on the phone, she would mention incidents of stray dogs and birds. There would always be a story or an incident that she would have to share. I started to love listening to her stories and was intrigued by her love and care for these stray living beings. Soon enough, it almost became one of the major parts of our phone conversations. One of the primary reasons for me enjoying her narration was that she has this incredible ability to tell a story. Listening to her narrations, one would start visualizing the whole incident. Her stories were so beautiful that they, in a way, inspired my trip to India. When I was visiting her, I had the opportunity to connect with all these stray dogs and birds. I had some wonderful memorable incidents during my stay. This trip and the wonderful narrations from my sister inspired me to write this book. Most of the times when people are dog lovers, they usually tend to have a pet dog. This has not been the case for my sister Tina. Tina's circumstances prevented her from keeping pets. In a way, this gave her the beautiful opportunity to connect with several stray dogs as she traveled to different places. Encounters with stray dogs during her journey will hopefully give some invaluable insights to all readers.
