Inclusive Education In Italy written by Simona D’Alessio and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-01 with Education categories.

This book provides an innovative and thought-provoking analysis of the policy of integrazione scolastica from an inclusive perspective. Drawing on historical and empirical research methods the book arises out of an ethnographic study, which investigates the extent to which the policy of integrazione scolastica can be considered an inclusive policy. The author poses two fundamental questions: why are there episodes of micro-exclusion and discrimination against disabled pupils still taking place in regular schools after more than 30 years have passed since the enactment of such a progressive policy? Can the policy of integration lead to the development of inclusion in Italy? The research findings presented in the book indicate that exclusion and discrimination towards disabled pupils in education do not result from a lack of implementation of the policy at a school level, rather from the perpetuation of dominant discourses, which construct disability as an individual deficit. The book does not deny the progress made in the country following the application of this anti-discriminatory policy; rather it challenges the hegemonic abilist culture and the traditional perspectives of disability and schooling that undermine the development of inclusive education. After having investigated the theoretical premises of the policy of integration, the author argues that this progressive policy is still rooted in a special needs education paradigm and that what was once a liberating policy has been transformed into a hegemonic tool which still manages, controls and normalizes disability leaving school settings and teaching and learning routines unchanged. She finally argues for a human rights approach for the development of an inclusive school for the 21st century. The book is an essential reading for academics, policy makers, researchers and students involved in education as it links ideological pressures to practical analyses.

The Teacher Literature And The Mediterranean written by Simone Galea and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-11-26 with Education categories.

At a time when the Mediterranean has rediscovered its own vitality, seven academics from the fields of education and literature look at how fictions set in the region narrate the role of the teacher from the point of view of the students and from that of the teachers themselves. While an increasingly technocratic approach to the performance of teachers focuses on competences, these often highly subjective narratives tell stories of practitioners who refuse to fit into the mould imposed on them by patriarchy or the educational institutions. The writers dealt with in this volume are aware that teachers cannot be solely defined in terms of what they are expected to do within schools and classrooms. This reductively conceives them as simply needing the skills to teach without having the ability to contextualise their teaching within wider historical, social and cultural realities. With its migration flows and intricate web of social and cultural politics, the Mediterranean of the 21st century is an ideal space for reflections on the role of the teacher in an ever-changing society.

The volume collects the contributions presented at the international conference Hominis 2023 (Havana, Cuba, 24-28 April 2023), in its ninth edition, entitled “Psicologia viva al servicio de sus pueblos”. In particular, the contributions of some theorists and scholars of Vygoskian thought presented at the Symposium “The Zone of Proximal Development (ZDP) in the School Education and Clinical Practice” are collected here. Therefore, the collection edited here resulted from an enriching and constructive international meeting that saw the profitable synergy between scholars of different countries involved in research, expanding a multicultural approach to psycho-pedagogical development and learning. The edition of the present volume represents to the editor the opportunity to synthesise the state of historical-cultural psychology, mainly when applied in clinical and didactical fields. Thanks to Sapienza’s funding for international agreements, the publication of these proceedings allows for a broad, in-depth analysis, and prospective analysis of the historical-cultural approach proposed by L.S. Vygotskij, a thinker to be appreciated not simply as a semiologist but as a fighter for freedom and overall inclusion in the frame of values of social justice and equality. It is an ambitious attempt, a message to all scholars, colleagues, and students engaged in education and psycho-social interventions.

The Archipelago written by John Foot and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-17 with History categories.

'An enjoyable, highly readable history that manages to bring murky, often fiendishly complex events into the light' Sunday Times Italy emerged from the Second World War in ruins. Divided, invaded and economically broken, it was a nation that some people claimed had ceased to exist. And yet, as rural society disappeared almost overnight, by the 1960s, it could boast the fastest-growing economy in the world. In The Archipelago, historian John Foot chronicles Italy's tumultuous history from the post-war period to the present day. From the silent assimilation of fascists into society after 1945 to the artistic peak of neorealist cinema, he examines both the corrupt and celebrated sides of the country. While often portrayed as a failed state on the margins of Europe, Italy has instead been at the centre of innovation and change – a political laboratory. This new history tells the fascinating story of a country always marked by scandal but with the constant ability to re-invent itself. Comprising original research and lively insights, The Archipelago chronicles the crises and modernisations of more than seventy years of post-war Italy, from its fields, factories, squares and housing estates to Rome's political intrigue.

Social Class Language And Power written by Carmel Borg and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-19 with Education categories.

This book foregrounds the ideas of an important European pedagogue whose writings provide insights for a critical social justice oriented approach to education. Lorenzo Milani has all the credentials to be regarded as potentially a key source of inspiration for critical pedagogy. Milani’s approach to education for social justice gives importance to a number of issues, notably social class issues, race issues especially with his critique of North-South relations and cultural/technological transfer, the collective dimension of learning and action (emphasis is placed on reading and writing the word and the world collectively), student-teachers and teacher-students (a remarkable form of peer tutoring), reading and responding critically to the media (newspapers), the existential basis of one’s learning (from the occasional to the profound motive) and the fusion of academic and technical knowledge. There is also an anti-war pedagogy that emerges from his defence of the right to ‘conscientious objection’ with its process of reading/teaching history against the grain. There is much in the work of Milani and his students to provide the basis for a process of schooling that serves as an antidote to the prevailing contemporary system, a system which gives pride of place to testing, standardization, league tables and vouchers. -- Peter Mayo, University of Malta
