Contemporáneamente, la relación filosofía-literatura ha alcanzado un desarrollo inigualado. Tal vez, la diferencia entre ambas es más aparente de lo que puede creerse a primera vista. La filosofía contemporánea ha mostrado un gran interés por la preocupación por el lenguaje, por la precisión de su significado, sus posibilidades como realidad y su efectiva relación, si es que la hay. La cuestión lingüística ha ido absorbiendo cada vez más a la filosofía, que se ha visto forzada a referirse al lenguaje como obligado punto de partida, más o menos directamente, según el caso. En algunos casos, el filósofo se ve atraído por la poesía y se observa la presencia filosófica en la literatura. Así, es permisible preguntarse si en ciertas ocasiones ambas disciplinas no muestran, como Jano, dos caras de una misma realidad. Filosofía y literatura, un tema prometedor de meditaciones estimulantes. Aún es temprano para decir, mucho menos asegurar, si se alcanzará su identidad mediante la correspondiente identificación, ya que aún se muestran separadas y, a lo más, tangentes entre sí. Este trabajo tiene como finalidad dejar constancia de tan fascinante tema.

The Signifying Self: Cervantine Drama as Counter-Perspective Aesthetic offers a comprehensive analysis of all eight of Cervantes's Ocho comedias (published 1615), moving beyond conventional anti-Lope approaches to Cervantine dramatic practise in order to identify what, indeed, his theatre promotes. Considered on its own aesthetic terms, but also taking into account ontological and socio-cultural concerns, this study compels a re-assessment of Cervantes's drama and conflates any monolithic interpretations which do not allow for the textual interplay of contradictory and conflicting discourses which inform it. Cervantes's complex and polyvalent representation of freedom underpins such an approach; a concept which is considered to be a leitmotif of Cervantes's work but which has received scant attention with regards to his theatre. Investigation of this topic reveals not only Cervantes's rejection of established theatrical convention, but his preoccupation with the difficult relationship between the individual and the early modern Spanish world. Cervantes's comedias emerge as a counter-perspective to dominant contemporary Spanish ideologies and more orthodox artistic imaginings. Ultimately, The Signifying Self seeks to recuperate the Ocho comedias as a significant part of the Cervantine, and Golden-Age, canon and will be of interest and benefit to those scholars who work on Cervantes and indeed on early modern Spanish theatre in general.

Con el convencimiento crítico de que sólo desde el ámbito de la cultura argentina, en su historia, en su literatura, en las inflexiones de su lengua, puede empezar a comprenderse la significación profunda de la obra de Jorge Luis Borges, este ensayo analiza diversos aspectos de los once libros publicados por el escritor argentino entre 1923 y 1942. Se trata de la parte de su obra menos difundida y estudiada, debido a la voluntad inquebrantable de Borges de no reeditar sus tres primeros libros de ensayos, así como al incesante proceso de supresiones y modificaciones en su poesía. Este trabajo pretende complementar la imagen parcial y fragmentaria de la crítica que define a Borges exclusivamente como un escritor “cosmopolita”, sin nexos significativos con su propia realidad histórica y cultural que puedan rastrearse en sus textos. Por el contrario, aquí se postula que la reconocida “universalidad” del autor sólo fue posible a partir de sus múltiples relaciones con la cultura rioplatense. Desde una perspectiva que desea mostrar el proceso evolutivo de la literatura de Borges, Olea Franco afirma que la riqueza del escritor maduro tiene sus orígenes en este periodo, pues sin sus primeras experimentaciones literarias, no hubiera sido posible que Borges alcanzara ese estilo conciso y polisémico que tanto fascina al lector actual.
