Dot, a young surf girl from England, moves with her mum to the small, dusty beach town of Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. At first, Dot struggles to fit in to her new school and to make friends. Until, that is, she meets Pollyanna Pocket, her dog and loyal sidekick. The two friends soon learn that the lush forests of Santa Teresa and the ocean are filled with incredible friends and magical adventures just waiting to be discovered. It seems that the creatures of the Land Above the Water and of the Ocean Deeps are keen to share what they know with Dot — that we are all connected, we are all one. Dot is launched into a journey of self-discovery, as she learns to see the magic that surrounds her everyday.

At this point I feel good about saying that I have educated myself about Mini Simmons Surfboards.I started this book when I first recognized that these surfboards were special. At first I just posted pics but then I realized that this board was part of something revolutionary. It doesn't happen often, you know, in this thruster world.Don't get me wrong, I don't always ride a Mini-I ride the board that is right for the wave, you dig?Look, we all want the maximum experience from our surf session and at some point you realize that your thruster just won't cut it.Longboards you say, nah.Ahhhh . . . the Mini gets you through those sections where the thruster would die without the 5 extra feet.Longer waves equates to longer love.BUT, and this is a big BUT for me, you still need enough design in the board to make it fly down the magic carpet. And in my case damn it, I want to hit that lip and snap an off the top where appropriate . . . just because I am riding a Mini doesn't mean I don't want those things.Right? So, I am just saying, the right Mini Simmons surfboard can do these things . . . I know, because I shape them. What doesn't work for me . . .too much nosetoo much rockernot enough rockertoo longtoo shorttoo thicktoo wideYea, I know you are saying, WTF.But look, each board is right for the right reasons. That is why I love this site, because who an I to say that the no-glass plywood Mini Simmons wouldn't work?In fact, I love it that this guy shaped it.Or the Twinzer Mini-I fucking love twinzers. But on a Mini, I don't know?So there it is, we all got our preferences.Fuck the mags . . . the right board is the right board.Go shape it.Go ride it.Peace.

No matter what you create, someone is going to love it and someone is going to hate it. Focus on the people who love it. Drew Brophy This is the story of a self-taught artist who inspired change in the action sports industry. From painting surfboards to skateboards to designing tee shirts and boogie boards; Drew Brophy took his art from rejection to success. Brophy began his journey as a young artist who struggled to fit in. He had a vision for painting in a unique way, but the rest of the world wasn't ready for it. He never gave up and in time, his techniques became accepted and eventually, emulated worldwide. In this book, Brophy shares a painful, yet inspiring account of how he progressed from being a totally lost young man to creating an adventurous life of surf and travel with his art. Look Inside for: Brophy's full color paintings, sketches and designs that inspired surf culture; Hundreds of Brophy's surfboard paintings from the 1980's to present; The brutally honest story of Brophy's journey from starving to a full art career; The mindset that it took to overcome the naysayers and ultimately led to success. A failed art gallery, clients refusing to pay and endless rejections, that nearly put an end to Brophy's career. But then he asked himself one question, and the answer is what eventually led him on a path to create the life he really wanted. Read on for Brophy's personal story and artist retrospective, showing the progression of art and mindset over the course of thirty years. This book is inspiring for any artist who sometimes wonders is my art good enough?

Have you ever wondered where surfing waves come from, what makes every wave different, why some peel perfectly and others just close out; why, some days, the waves come in sets and other days they don’t, and how the tides, the wind and the shape of the sea floor affect the waves for surfing? If you have, this book is for you. Now in its third edition, Surf Science is the first book to talk in depth about the science of waves from a surfer’s point of view. It fills the gap between surfing books and waves textbooks, and will help you learn how to predict surf. Surf Science is also a useful introduction to oceanography and the science of waves. You don’t need a scientific background to read it – just curiosity and a fascination for waves.
