This book introduces the principle, main parameters, acquisition mode and operation procedure of Optical Quality Analysis System II (OQAS II) based on double-pass technology. OQAS II is increasingly used in the diagnosis and assessment of ocular diseases, especially for cataract. In this book, the clinical practice of OQAS II in the field of refractive cataract surgery is emphasized, including the preoperative/postoperative evaluation of visual quality, the timing of cataract surgery, the prediction of the visual quality after cataract surgery and doctor-patient communication. We hope the book provides a reference for the clinical application of the OQAS II in the field of cataract and helps to form the worldwide standard specification to a certain extent.

Good vision is more than 20/20 on a Snellen visual acuity chart. The modern ophthalmologist understands that contrast sensitivity, near and distance vision, performance under light and dark conditions, and the brain's interpretation of input from the sensory apparatus, are all important elements in patients' quality of vision. In Quality of Vision: Essential Optics for the Ophthalmic Surgeon, ophthalmologist and optics expert Dr. Jack T. Holladay explores the elements of vision that lie beyond Snellen testing. He explains the Quality of Vision addresses: - Measuring and treating astigmatism in corneal and IOL surgery - The importance of correcting spherical aberration in cataract and refractive surgery - IOL calculations after refractive surgery - Promising approaches to the correction of presbyopia - Other practical topics the clinician can use every day Recognized as the leader in ophthalmic optics, Dr. Holladay incorporates practical aspects of daily practice into each chapter as he expertly explains the scientific principles, mathematical formulas, and theories behind these important issues. Additionally, Quality of Vision includes numerous color illustrations to provide visual representations of the text's key points. Dr. Holladay discusses what's on everyone's mind: - How to take the best measurements and perform the best calculations to ensure good outcomes in cataract and refractive surgery - How neural adaptation can improve outcomes - How today's excimer laser systems deliver excellent optical correction, and why tomorrow's systems will perform even better Quality of Vision: Essential Optics for the Ophthalmic Surgeon is the most complete and practical reference for ophthalmologists looking to increase their understanding of optical physics and their ability to deliver good vision to their patients after cataract and refractive surgery.

Due to the ageing population, the need for cataract surgery is increasing very steeply in line with demographic change. Cataract surgery is a highly successful and cost-effective intervention, but the implantation of conventional monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) only allows a restoration of distance vision, with minimal postoperative functionality of near and intermediate vision, which are necessary for many common daily tasks. Although the removal of the opacified crystalline lens has been demonstrated to have a very positive impact on the mental health, daily functioning, and Quality of Life (QoL) of patients, it is not surprising that the poor visual restoration achieved with conventional monofocal IOLs at different near and intermediate distances might limit patient functioning and consequently QoL, considering changing lifestyles and increased working years. Therefore, this has led to a growing interest toward IOLs that may also reduce spectacle dependence for intermediate and near distances.

Corneal refractive surgeons are likely already familiar with the theory behind small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and the excellent postoperative outcomes it can achieve, but they were left without a thorough and comprehensive guide to performing the procedure, until now. The Surgeon’s Guide to SMILE: Small Incision Lenticule Extraction is designed to provide surgeons who are interested in starting or are already performing SMILE with a detailed description of the preoperative assessment, surgical technique, and postoperative management of SMILE treatments. This book by Professor Dan Z. Reinstein, Mr. Timothy J. Archer, and Dr. Glenn I. Carp is designed as a surgical video-fellowship, focusing on the granular details of every aspect of patient preparation and management with special attention to how to perform a perfect routine SMILE procedure. The protocols and methods are sourced in both the published scientific evidence and the extensive experience and expertise of the authors. It also includes tips and tricks of how to manage the full range of possible scenarios and complications that can occur during and after a SMILE surgery. Each process described in the book is accompanied by at least one, and in many cases numerous, narrated video examples. Bonus! This dynamic learning tool is supplemented by the SMILE video library containing over 16 hours of surgical videos and tutorials hosted on a companion website. The succinct and demonstrative style of The Surgeon’s Guide to SMILE: Small Incision Lenticule Extraction will help novice and experienced SMILE surgeons alike learn important techniques and improve their outcomes. From the Foreword: “The reader is in for a treat, receiving authoritative technical information from seasoned leaders in the field of refractive surgery, who have attained tremendous experience in excimer laser ablation and who have also been on the forefront of scientific evaluation of the new femtosecond only surgical approach that is SMILE.” -J. Bradley Randleman, MD, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA

While chopping techniques are particularly advantageous for complicated cataracts, they must be integrated with other devices and strategies. Phaco Chop, the best-selling cataract surgery book, has been revised and updated into a Second Edition to reflect the many advances over the past few years. More than half of the 30 total chapters are new. These detail strategies for complicated cases and introduce femtosecond laser nuclear fragmentation techniques. Dr. David F. Chang is widely acknowledged as one of the best cataract surgical teachers. His video instruction courses for phaco chop and complicated cataracts have consistently ranked among the best attended and top rated at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons meetings for over a decade. The Four Main Sections inside the Second Edition: Phaco Chop Techniques Phacodynamics of Chopping Femtosecond Laser Nuclear Pre-Chopping Complicated Cases and Complications – Strategies and Management Section One is a detailed guide for learning phaco chop. The faculty from Dr. Chang’s popular phaco chop course outlines their pearls based upon extensive experience teaching residents and transitioning surgeons. Section Two provides the general principles of instrumentation and configuring machine parameters. Separate chapters specifically address optimizing the Infiniti, Signature, and Stellaris platforms for chopping. Section Three introduces femtosecond laser nuclear pre chopping with separate chapters on the LenSx, LensAR, and Optimedica platforms. Section Four covers small pupils and IFIS, rock hard and white mature cataracts, weak zonules, and extremely long and short eyes with an emphasis on managing posterior capsule rupture, advanced IOL fixation strategies, and avoiding and managing capsulorrhexis complications. Bonus Video Material! Phaco Chop and Advanced Phaco Techniques, Second Edition includes instructional video that complements and supplements the content of the book. With your book purchase, you will receive a DVD that contains 26 surgical videos in high definition 3D format.
