HIS SUMMER VACATION IS RUINED when twelve-year-old Buzz Collins is forced to share his room and emotional space with his grandfather, who has Alzheimer's disease, and his parents forbid him to associate with his best friend, Mitch. The thought of giving up his friendship is heartbreaking enough. But how can he relate to someone who forgets his grandson's name, wears adult diapers, and thinks dog biscuits are people cookies, someone who could die in the night and scare Buzz right out of puberty? Buzz thinks Alzheimer's is caused by a traumatic event, such as the train accident that killed Grandpa's brother Barkley in childhood. When Grandpa's mind wanders and he mistakes Buzz for Barkley, Buzz assumes the role of his great uncle, and in the process develops compassion and appreciation for his grandfather. The Collins' family copes with Grandpa the best they can. But the situation turns deadly when Buzz and Mitch - whose friendship Buzz refuses to end - attempt to cure Grandpa of Alzheimer's disease by recreating the train accident on a hot summer day. Despite the sad subject matter, Down the Memory Hole is a laugh-out-loud, coming-of-age story about Alzheimer's Disease as viewed through the mind of a frustrated 12-year-old who dearly loves his grandfather but wishes they weren't roommates. (Young Adult)

The worst day of Laura Greenwood's life began when she learned that her brother had been arrested on suspicion of murder. It only went downhill from there. Within hours, Laura finds herself swept up in a bloody vendetta, framed for a crime she didn't commit, with no way of proving her innocence. Enlisting the help of homicide detective Zachary Zimmerman, Laura sets out to track down the real culprit, following the only lead she has: rumors of an enigmatic assassin who wields a power that defies logic and reason. A man of legendary status in the criminal underworld. And now he is after Laura. It's kill or be killed, and Laura is in no mood for mercy. Laura's quest for retribution takes her to far darker places than she could ever have imagined. But sometimes, the deepest darkness is that which we create ourselves. Deep within her heart, beneath the rage and lust for revenge, something more sinister is starting to grow...

The U.S. history curriculum is under attack. Politicians, political analysts, and ideologues seek to wipe clean the slate of the American past and replace it with one of their own invention. The basis for this new narrative comes from political beliefs of the present, rather than any systematic examination of the past. These anti-historians campaign to insert their version of American history into the nation’s classrooms, hoping to begin a process that will forever transform our understanding of America’s past. The Memory Hole examines five central topics in the US history curriculum, showing how anti-historians of both the left and right seek to distort these topics and insert a refashioned story in America’s classrooms. Ignoring facts, refashioning other facts and pretending that there are no rules in the telling of history, these re-interpreters of the past place the minds of America’s young people in danger. The beleaguered hero of this book is the discipline of History, and The Memory Hole shows how the history curriculum should adhere to history’s habits of mind that require complex, sophisticated and subtle thinking about the past. History and social studies teachers, students of history and all those who care about the deep and enduring value of history will value this book and its conclusions.

This book is brutally honest and bitingly funny discussion of politics and society in contemporary Australia. Using satire, insight and occasional foul language Clark pokes the swollen bellies of politics, economics, consumerism, media, food, oil, logging, water and transportation. This is an important work at a time when political critique has been eroded from the public discourse.

The Holocaust written by Ryan Barrick and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-11 with History categories.

This book is a collection of seventeen scholarly articles which analyze Holocaust testimonies, photographs, documents, literature and films, as well as teaching methods in Holocaust education. Most of these essays were originally presented as papers at the Millersville University Conferences on the Holocaust and Genocide from 2010 to 2012. In their articles, the contributors discuss the Holocaust in concentration camps and ghettos, as well as the Nazis’ methods of exterminating Jews. The authors analyze the reliability of photographic evidence and eyewitness testimonies about the Holocaust. The essays also describe the psychological impact of the Holocaust on survivors, witnesses and perpetrators, and upon Jewish identity in general after the Second World War. The scholars explore the problems of the memorialization of the Holocaust in the Soviet Union and the description of the Holocaust in Russian literature. Several essays are devoted to the representation of the Holocaust in film, and trace the evolution of its depiction from the early Holocaust movies of the late 1940s – early 1950s to modern Holocaust fantasy films. They also show the influence of Holocaust cinema on feature films about the Armenian Genocide. Lastly, several authors propose innovative methods of teaching the Holocaust to college students. The younger generation of students may see the Holocaust as an event of the distant past, so new teaching methods are needed to explain its significance. This collection of essays, based on new multi-disciplinary research and innovative methods of teaching, opens many unknown aspects and provides new perspectives on the Holocaust.
