Autant les Dragons étaient puissants, autant les Guides issus des Hussards, de tous les Corps de Cavalerie, rapides et fringants comme des guêpes, tourbillonnaient autour des Etats-Majors. Prêts à escorter, à ouvrir la route, à sabrer, à porter un pli urgent à travers le champ de bataille, ils furent prisés par tous les Grands de l'Empire. Ces derniers n'aspiraient qu'à posséder leurs propres compagnies chamarrées et élégantes dont la passion du cheval n'égalait que le dévouement et l'amour de la Gloire.
