Dreaming In Dark Times written by Sharon Sliwinski and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-28 with Political Science categories.

What do dreams manage to say—or indeed, show—about human experience that is not legible otherwise? Can the disclosure of our dream-life be understood as a form of political avowal? To what does a dream attest? And to whom? Blending psychoanalytic theory with the work of such political thinkers as Hannah Arendt and Michel Foucault, Sharon Sliwinski explores how the disclosure of dream-life represents a special kind of communicative gesture—a form of unconscious thinking that can serve as a potent brand of political intervention and a means for resisting sovereign power. Each chapter centers on a specific dream plucked from the historical record, slowly unwinding the significance of this extraordinary disclosure. From Wilfred Owen and Lee Miller to Frantz Fanon and Nelson Mandela, Sliwinski shows how each of these figures grappled with dream-life as a means to conjure up the courage to speak about dark times. Here dreaming is defined as an integral political exercise—a vehicle for otherwise unthinkable thoughts and a wellspring for the freedom of expression. Dreaming in Dark Times defends the idea that dream-life matters—that attending to this thought-landscape is vital to the life of the individual but also vital to our shared social and political worlds.

Ngugi wa Thiong'o was born the fifth child of his father's third wife, in a family that includes twenty-four children born to four different mothers. He spent his 1930s childhood as the apple of his mother's eye, before attending school to slake what is considered a bizarre thirst for learning. As he grows up, the wider political and social changes occurring in Kenya begin to impinge on the boy's life in both inspiring and frightening ways. Through the story of his grandparents and parents, and his brothers' involvement in the violent Mau Mau uprising, Ngugi deftly etches a tumultuous era, capturing the landscape, the people and their culture, and the social and political vicissitudes of life under colonialism and war.

The XXII International Congress for Analytical Psychology was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and for the first time in South America. It was also the first such congress delivered in hybrid form, bringing together IAAP members from all over the globe – in person and on screens. Guests interested in Jungian thinking from various other academic fields were invited and joined in the conversations. The theme of Opening to the Changing World was explored as we come out of a pandemic and face the imperative of fast changes to our ways of working and relating to people, living beings and the planet we inhabit. The Congress offered again ways of exploring themes via a rich programme of pre-congress workshops, masterclasses, plenary and breakout presentations and posters. The Proceedings are published as two volumes: a printed edition of the plenary presentations, and an e-book with the complete material presented at the Congress. To professionals as well as the general public, this collection of papers offers a cross-section and inspiring insight into contemporary Jungian thinking, spanning from classical theories to the latest scientific research.
