Under socialism the anthropological sciences developed under conflicting pressures: on the one hand Soviet influences, Marxist ideology and institutional changes, on the other the continued influence of national traditions and of the distinction between Volkskunde and Volkerkunde. The chapters bring out striking differences between the countries considered: the German Democratic Republic, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. They also draw attention to variation within countries, and between sub-branches of the discipline. Coverage extends from the Stalinist years to the end of the socialist era, and the topics range from folklore studies at home to fieldwork expeditions abroad.

A warm, gorgeous exploration of a little girl's experience immigrating to a new country and missing her home and her grandmother, who still lives far away. Sakura's dad gets a new job in America, so she and her parents make the move from their home in Japan. When she arrives in the States, most of all she misses her grandmother and the cherry blossom trees, under which she and her grandmother used to play and picnic. She wonders how she'll ever feel at home in this new place, with its unfamiliar language and landscape. One day, she meets her neighbor, a boy named Luke, and begins to feel a little more settled. When her grandmother becomes ill, though, her family takes a trip back to Japan. Sakura is sad when she returns to the States and once again reflects on all she misses. Luke does his best to cheer her up -- and tells her about a surprise he knows she'll love, but she'll have to wait till spring. In the meantime, Sakura and Luke's friendship blooms and finally, when spring comes, Luke takes her to see the cherry blossom trees flowering right there in her new neighborhood. Sakura's Cherry Blossoms captures the beauty of the healing power of friendship through Weston's Japanese poetry-inspired text and Saburi's breathtaking illustrations.

Thomas Sch Tte written by Thomas Schütte and has been published by Richter Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012 with Figure sculpture, German categories.

The Castello di Rivoli exhibition examines the Frauen series, extraordinary portrayals of women whose bodies are submitted to spatial and organic deformations. What emerges forcefully from this group of works is Schu tte's ability to effect a true formal and imaginative revolution, not only with regard to the noble tradition of Western figurative sculpture but also to that of his own ¿uvre. The bronze and aluminium Frauen derive directly from some ceramic models chosen from the 120 different rough sketches realised between 1997 and 1999. For the first time ever, the 18 Frauen are presented together in the impressive spaces of the Manica Lunga, the former paintings gallery of the Savoys in the 17th century, measuring 6 metres by 146. The Frauen are accompanied by the complete series of their ceramic models and the 100 watercolours from the artist's private collection. At the Castello di Rivoli, the artist also presents two new bronze sculptures four metres high, called United Enemies, which greet the visitor as he approaches the entrance to the 18th-century castle.--www.nmnm.mc.

Turner written by David Blayney Brown and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019 with Mountains in art categories.

The extensive travels of J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851) through Britain and continental Europe provided an inexhaustible source of inspiration for his visionary color compositions, imaginative landscapes, and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. In Switzerland, he experienced both the beauty and the menace of the Alps, while by the sea, he observed the colorful harmonies of diffuse light. These experiences laid the groundwork for Turner to elevate landscape painting to an eminence that rivaled history painting. But how did he get there? Presenting this incomparably original artist on his route to autonomy in art, Turner traces the London artist's travels as he extended his search for motifs to Central Europe during the continent's temporary peace in 1802. He spent much time journeying through the mountains of Switzerland, constantly sketching his impressions of the scenes around him. Upon his return to London, he developed the unique imagery of his sublime landscape paintings. Through one hundred color illustrations that tell a story about the forces of nature of the sea and the Swiss mountain landscapes, the authors here examine the change Turner brought to the portrayal of the sublime and the subject of weather phenomena. Other essays explore Turner's role as the forerunner of modernism and reflect on the relationship between the artist and travel. Bringing together the symphony of colors that composed Turner's view of Switzerland's awe-inspiring landscapes, this book sheds new light on the artist's vision of the Alps and the sea.
