Deshalb muss eines vorausgeschickt werden: Wer in Deutschland von Armut spricht, meint nicht die Armut, die wir uns vorstellen, wenn wir an sich entwickelnde Länder denken. In Deutschland muss niemand Hunger leiden oder auf Kleidung und Wohnung verzichten, es gibt ein soziales Netzwerk, das in solchen Fällen greift. Es geht viel mehr um die Armut, die wir als relative Armut bezeichnen (siehe Punkt 1), in der es eher darum geht, das Verständnis von Armut zu erweitern. Dennoch warnen Wohlfahrtsverbände und Gewerkschaften vor der steigenden Armut in der Bundesrepublik. Denn in einem Land, in dem relativer Reichtum herrscht, ist klar, dass alle Bedürfnisse des täglichen Lebens über den Markt, und somit über den Faktor “Geld”, geregelt werden. Wer an diesem Wettbewerb nicht mithalten kann, gerät leicht in die Armut. Schwer davon betroffen sind jene Menschen, die aufgrund verschiedener Faktoren keine Arbeit finden, sie bekommen zwar Unterstützung von Staat, doch der Weg in die Armut kann dort beginnen. Mit dem Verlust der Arbeit fallen plötzlich viele Faktoren des Lebens einfach weg und die Menschen sind weitestgehend ausgegrenzt von diesem Kreislauf “Markt - Geld”. Die Arbeitslosigkeit zieht eine ganze Palette an Risiken nach sich, die Armut begünstigen, wie beispielsweise Obdachlosigkeit, Krankheit oder auch soziale Probleme der Wiedereingliederung. [...]

The essays in this book consider issues of tolerance and intolerance faced by Jews and Christians between approximately 200 BCE and 200 CE. Several chapters are concerned with many different aspects of early Jewish-Christian relationships. As minority groups, both Jews and Christians had to work out ways of co-existing with their Graeco-Roman neighbours.
