Judentum, Christentum und Islam kennen ein sog. Bilderverbot.

As early as AD 781, the writer of the Xi'an Fu inscription described the spread of Syriac Christianity (called Jingjiao in Chinese) to China as a wind blowing eastward. The discovery of the Xi'an Fu Stele, the Dunhuang Jingjiao Manuscripts, the numerous Syriac tombstones and fragments in Central Asia and many parts of China has unearthed a buried history of Syriac Christianity from the Tang Dynasty to the time of the Mongol Empire. The papers in this volume cover a wide range of topics from manuscripts and inscription, to the historical, liturgical and theological perspectives of Syriac Christianity in this geographic realm. Li Tang is Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Biblical Studies and Ecclesiastical History, University of Salzburg.. Dietmar W. Winkler is Professor of Patristic Studies and Ecclesiastical History at the University of Salzburg and Director of the Center for the Study of Eastern Christianity (ZECO) of the University of Salzburg. Politics Of Benjamin S Kafka Philosophy As Renegade written by Brendan Moran and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-05 with Philosophy categories.

This book provides a critical assessment of Benjamin’s writings on Franz Kafka and of Benjamin’s related writings. Eliciting from Benjamin’s writings a conception of philosophy that is political in its dissociation from – its becoming renegade in relation to, its philosophic shame about – established laws, norms, and forms, the book compares Benjamin’s writings with relevant works by Agamben, Heidegger, Levinas, and others. In relating Benjamin’s writings on Kafka to Benjamin’s writings on politics, the study delineates a philosophic impetus in literature and argues that this impetus has potential political consequences. Finally, the book is critical of Benjamin’s messianism insofar as it is oriented by the anticipated elimination of exceptions and distractions. Exceptions and distractions are, the book argues, precisely what literature, like other arts, brings to the fore. Hence the philosophic, and the political, importance of literature.

Critique Of Judgment written by Immanuel Kant and has been published by Newcomb Livraria Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-01-01 with Philosophy categories.

A new translation of Immanuel Kant’s 1790 "Critique of Judgement" in modern American English with the original German in the back for reference. This is Volume IX in the Complete Works of Immanuel Kant from Newcomb Livraria Press. "Herewith I end my whole critical business" Kant states in the preface to his third and final Critique in his core triad of critical philosophical treatises. In his old age, he turned from being Polemic to being prescriptive in his vision for a future of transcendental, rational morality. Here he recaps his whole critical system and breaks out his final thoughts between a Critique of Aesthetic and Teleological Judgment. Between Pure Reason (theoretical) and Practical Reason (law and ethics) stands the mediating Power of Judgement which recognizes the particular in the general and bridges the chasm between sensuality and morality, nature and freedom, manifesting itself to the senses. Kant's Teleological, dialectal understanding of the experience of art is still used today in Modern art theory. His analysis of sublimity as "disinterested pleasure" as an aesthetic experience between the dynamics of the cognitive faculties of sensuality and rationality, creates a paradox of judgment as both subjective and universal. To Kant, the correct recognition of what beauty is, and responding to it authentically (morally), is vital to his entire project.

Desirable God written by Roger Burggraeve and has been published by Peeters Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Idolatry categories.

The human fascination with images, and the idolatry or idolization of images as the source of desire, passion and terror, is treated in this book. The first part enters more deeply into religious idolatry, past and present. It treats the biblical, the early-Jewish as well as the Christian views on monotheism and the prohibition against images, as source of authentic humanism or as source of intolerance and violence. In the second part, the focus shifts onto a number of contemporary, profane idols and gods: the nationalist fascination for one's own land and people, and the fear or hate towards foreigners; the rampant preoccupation with (genetic) health, in a context of body culture and aestheticization, of which the postmodern sport idols have become the great 'icons'; the current image- and screen-culture and all forms of audiovisual exorcisms; and last but not least the ongoing process of economization and globalization, with an expanding culture of 'branding' logos.

Karl Barth written by Eberhard Busch and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-06-21 with Religion categories.

'Karl Barth' is an unparalleled accomplishment. An authentic church father of the Post-Reformation era, the Basel professor's contributions to theology, the life of the church, and the world of culture and politics have been frequently noted. This work, however, presents extraordinary new information and insight based on his own correspondence and notes. What one finds in this work is Barth's own running commentary on events and people - from 1886 to 1968. Everything is depicted from his perspective and chiefly in his own words, and this is precisely what makes the volume so fascinating and valuable. The brilliance, wit, and humanity of Barth shine through everywhere as he is seen as son, brother, student, editor, friend, pastor, husband, father, soldier, teacher, theologian, church leader, political critic, polemicist, ecumenist, author, preacher, music lover, senior citizen. The gigantic theologian is here, but - even more - the man shines through. An abundance of pictures accompanies the text - most of them to be seen for the first time. The contents of this book are new and of utmost interest and importance. Readers not familiar with the accomplishment of Karl Barth will learn to know both the man and his thought. Specialists will for the first time discern the figure behind the intellect. All who propose to understand the story of the twentieth century will be illumined by this book.
