“The go-to guide on diversity. . . . A must-read book for [anyone] who wants to understand what it takes to respect and work with today’s global workforce.” —Brendon Burchard, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of High Performance Habits A powerful diversity training tool from one of the most respected diversity trainers. Even well-intended people can cause harm. Have you ever heard yourself or someone else say: “Some of my best friends are . . . (Black, White, Asian, etc.)”? “I don’t think of you as . . . (Gay, Disabled, Jewish, etc.)”? “I don’t see color, I’m colorblind”? These statements and dozens like them can build a divide between us and the people we interact with. Though well-intended, they often widen the diversity gap sometimes causing irreparable harm personally and professionally. If you’ve ever wanted to be more effective in your communication with others, or have been afraid of saying the wrong thing, then this concise guide is essential to becoming more inclusive and diversity-smart. “Good intentions are not enough in this well written, down to earth, no blame, insightful book. If you ever found yourself unsure of what to say, then this book will provide you valuable tools to be more effective every day.” —Judith H. Katz, Ed. D. author of White Awareness: Handbook for Anti-racism Training

What made me write this book is from overhearing dumb remarks, and questions people ask. You might have heard a few of these over the years or have been guilty to contributing to a few of these questions. (I'll admit, I am just as guilty for asking dumb questions too). If you really think about it, those dumb questions are really funny. These are really dumb questions that are meant to be taken serious. "My reply to myself" section is just a sarcastic version of what most people like myself would like to say out loud but wouldn't dare to. However, it is said with plenty of attitude with the eyes and body language. Can you imagine someone responding out loud with plenty of body and hand language? For example, Oh! I know he didn't just ask me that! Can you imagine the head and neck motion or maybe the eyes rolls up in your head from disgust or disbelief. Well, basically this is the way we kind of see ourselves but doing it quietly within ourselves. If only you could really read people minds when you ask a dumb question and you really don't realize it. Some questions are so foolish it can leave you speechless. This is just a collection of things people tend to say that comes right off of the top of their heads without any thought; you know the old adage, "Mouth in motion before Brain in gear." I'm sure you will come up with more of your own experiences that may not be included. Here are many examples of my favorite dumb things people say. You may find yourself chuckling at a few of these dumb questions and remembering some of the questions you may have heard yourself or may have ask just yesterday.

The old adage truth is stranger than fiction can also be construed as truth is funnier than fiction and we see no shortage of real people doing and saying dumb things and making us laugh in the process. The Editors of Reader’s Digest present a hilarious collection of dumb people doing dumb things. Every day in America we are bombarded by stupidity; sometimes we just shake our heads, but most of the time we get a good laugh out of the really dumb things people do and say. In our first collection of dumb stories we poke a little fun at the unbelievably dumb things that happen in our lives and have a good chuckle along the way. “You’re a dumb criminal if…You’re not picky about your office locations. Christopher Exley of Everett, Washington, was arrested for conducting a drug deal over the phone—in the bathroom of the Everett Police Department.” “During my brother-in-law’s first performance review, his boss said, “I’m not quite sure what it is you do here. But whatever it is, could you do it faster?” --Jeanie Waara, Philip, SD “In an attempt to balance work and motherhood, I delegated the grocery shopping to my young babysitter. But the job proved a tad daunting. One day while I was at work, she texted me from the supermarket. “Can’t find Brillo pads,” she wrote. “All they have are Tampax and Kotex.” --Kimberly Clark, Alpharetta, GA “I overheard an elderly gentleman tell his friend that he couldn’t meet him the next day because he had to go to the hospital for an autopsy. His friend was sympathetic: “I had one of those last year. Luckily it wasn’t serious.” --Tracy Moralee, Hitchin, Great Britain

A collection of stupid utterances, mostly unintentional--although not always--from politics, show business, sports, and anywhere else people can put their feet in their mouths. Based on recorded history, it's safe to say that dumb remarks have been with us since the invention of writing. Young or old, rich or poor, famous or unknown, people of all generations and cultures have seized the opportunity to say something dumb - stupidity has always been an equal opportunity employer. In celebration of such mental lapses and pure idiocy, here is a collection of stupid utterances, unintentional and otherwise, from the worlds of politics, radio, television, newspapers, show business, sports, and literature - and everywhere else people can - and have - put their feet in their mouths.

Have you, or has anyone you know, ever suffered from stupidity? From Dr. Larry, the Internationally Renowned Psychotherapist, Self-Righteous Occupier of the Moral High Ground, and All-Around Better Person than You, comes 563 Stupid Things People Do to Mess Up Their Lives. Dr. Larry's previous books, such as You Can't Spell Stupid Without U and I and Why Mediocre Things Happen to Mediocre People, have changed the lives of millions of intelligence-challenged individuals all over the world. So if you're interested in hearing a perfect stranger explain to you how stupid and useless you really are, you'll love Dr. Larry's latest collection of condescending wisdom. For example, don't do the following: Stupid Thing #50: Attempt the Vulcan mind meld. If you don't know what you're doing, this can lead to permanent melding. Stupid Thing #228: Accentuate the positive. Rather than accentuate the positive or eliminate the negative, I'd recommend messing around with Mr. In-Between. Stupid Thing #44: Send in the clowns. I can think of no situation that would be improved by sending in the clowns.

Culled from business headlines and corporate files, Why Smart People Do Dumb Things is an in-depth examination of the ultimate in boardroom breakdown--a postmortem of the mega-mistakes made by highly regarded leaders in business and public life. From the "New Coke" debacle to the poor subscription showing of the Olympic Triplecast to the swirling controversy of Whitewater, Feinberg describes how strong minds can misuse their power, and why bright people often seize upon--and advocate brilliantly--ideas that others recognize as ridiculous.
