While the static behavior of concrete has been the subject of numerous works, the same cannot be said for the dynamic behavior. This book sets out to remedy this situation: it begins by presenting the most frequently used experimental techniques in the study of the dynamic behavior of concrete, then continues by examining seismicity and seismic behavior, soil behavior, models of concrete structures subject to seismic activity, seismic calculation methods of structures, and paraseismic engineering.

A comprehensive review of the material behavior of concrete under dynamic loads, especially impact and impuls, opens the volume. It is followed by a summary of the various analytical tools available to engineers interested in analyzing the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete members for dynamic load. These range from relatively simple and practice-oriented push-over analysis to sophisticated layered finite element models. Important design-related topics are discussed, with special emphasis on performance of concrete frames subjected to seismic loads. The significance of modern software systems is recognized by including extensive examples. For readers not current in dynamic analysis methods, an appendix contains a review of the mathematical methods most commonly used for such analysis.

This book covers structural dynamics from a theoretical and algorithmic approach. It covers systems with both single and multiple degrees-of-freedom. Numerous case studies are given to provide the reader with a deeper insight into the practicalities of the area, and the solutions to these case studies are given in terms of real-time and frequency in both geometric and modal spaces. Emphasis is also given to the subject of seismic loading. The text is based on many lectures on the subject of structural dynamics given at numerous institutions and thus will be an accessible and practical aid to students of the subject. Key features: Examines the effects of loads, impacts, and seismic forces on the materials used in the construction of buildings, bridges, tunnels, and more Structural dynamics is a critical aspect of the design of all engineered/designed structures and objects - allowing for accurate prediction of their ability to withstand service loading, and for knowledge of failure-causeing or critical loads

The design of concrete structures to endure extreme loading conditions from blast or projectile penetration entails the characterization of the material behavior under pertinent conditions and material models that can be used computationally for simulation and analysis. The lack of data and such constitutive models for concrete has posed a significant challenge to structure designers and material engineers. Concrete is a two-phase composite comprising mortar and aggregate. The aggregate serves as reinforcement and upsurges the effective strength and toughness of the overall composite. In recent years, the vibration of cracked structures subjected to dynamic loads has attracted more and more attentions of researchers, and many methods for analyzing the vibration were proposed. Dynamic Behavior of Concrete and Seismic Engineering covers experimental techniques in the study of the dynamic behavior of concrete, examines seismicity and seismic behavior, soil behavior, models of concrete structures subject to seismic activity. This book is intended to estimate the failure mechanism, hysteresis loops, displacement ductility, deterioration of strength and stiffness and energy dissipation of recycled concrete frames under low-reversed cyclic loading as well as the influence of different vertical loading. The nonlinear dynamic behavior of the pre-stressed concrete bridge with such a switching crack subjected to moving trains is investigated. Pre-stressed concrete bridges have found wide applications in railway engineering in recent years. Various studies over the last decade have shown that a structure with such cracks exhibits nonlinear dynamic behavior, and its safety and serviceability are seriously affected. So it is essential to study the vibration of the pre-stressed concrete bridge with such cracks under moving trains. This book is aimed at discovering the dynamic properties of concrete and cement-paste specimens representing the structural material and its adhesive component, and attempts to provide a modest characterization of the physical behavior of these materials on a macroscopic basis.

Earthquake Engineering Handbook written by Charles Scawthorn and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-09-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Earthquakes are nearly unique among natural phenomena - they affect virtually everything within a region, from massive buildings and bridges, down to the furnishings within a home. Successful earthquake engineering therefore requires a broad background in subjects, ranging from the geologic causes and effects of earthquakes to understanding the impact of these effects on foundations, buildings, structures, the infrastructure, and even their social and economic impact. The Earthquake Engineering Handbook is a comprehensive resource that covers the spectrum of topics relevant to designing for and mitigating earthquakes. In it, international experts present engineering practices, research, and developments in North America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim countries. The emphasis is on professional applications, with discussion ranging from basic dynamics and geoscience to new technologies intended to avoid rather than resist the forces of earthquakes. Covering both traditional and innovative practices, the Earthquake Engineering Handbook is the first professional reference that brings together all of earthquake engineering's many facets. Formulas, tables, and illustrations give immediate answers to questions arising in practice, and summaries of the essential elements of each topic paint a global picture from which readers can develop understanding and the ability to think beyond the results presented.

Validation Of Dynamic Analyses Of Dams And Their Equipment written by Jean-Jacques Fry and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-06-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment is the outcome of a three year cooperation program between CFBR (Comite Francais des Barrages et Reservoirs or French Committee on Large dams) and JCOLD (Japan Commission on Large Dams), and focusses on the dynamic behavior of concrete and embankment dams analyzed based on acceleration records of the JCOLD data base. The book covers a broad range of topics, including simplified and detailed methods of dynamic analysis for the seismic response of concrete and embankment dams compared with measured behavior. The response of embankment dams subjected to a 1.0 g foundation acceleration time history is computed by several analytical methods and compared. The modelling of stress-strain behavior of compacted soils for seismic stability analysis of earth-fill dams and its application for a failed earthfill dam is described. The cracking of the face slab of four faced rockfill dams during earthquakes is analyzed. The seismic behavior of concrete arch dams is discussed by the comparison of numerical and experimental results. Displacement-based seismic assessment of concrete dams is presented. Finally the book contains a comparison between the Japanese and French design criteria of gates and a comparison of the analysis of gates and field measurements. Validation of Dynamic Analyses of Dams and Their Equipment will be useful to professional and academics involved or interested in dam engineering.
