Monitoring patients with serious cardiovascular problems is invaluable in preventing further crises and achieving a faster, more effective attention. To this end, noninvasive cardiologic tests such as dynamic electrocardiography (e.g., Holter) have proven useful in clinical practice. The present document puts forward a novel Holter system that benefits from the GSM mobile telephony standard widespread technology. The suggested design adds to the traditional Holter capabilities the attractive features of real-time processing and possibility of monitoring the patients' heart anywhere, anytime.

For centuries the analysis of the heart rhythm has belonged to the foundations of medical art. We know that doctors in ancient Tibet used the interpretation of the heart rate to draw prognostic conclusions—somehow a modern rationale—that deserves further attention. The rapid advancement of science is providing more and more information about the details, but the subatomic resolution of structures hides the risk and the complex procedures are fragmented into static impressions. The same has happened to the ECG. The revolutionary development, acknowledged by the Nobel Prize for Einthoven, ledfromtheanalysisofthedynamicheartratetothestaticanalysisofthe heartstream curve. It is only with the ECG Holter recording over longer periods that the cardiologists rediscovered the old dynamic. With the continuous recording of the heart rate and its periodicity, it became accessible to a new dimension, a dim- sion that requires technically well-de?ned foundations for accurate data coll- tion, detailed knowledge of the electrocardiologic particularities of arrhythmia, and medical knowledge for the translation of the results into a diagnostic synthesis. With the ECG Holter the issue is no longer just to detect an arrhythmia, but also to determine dynamic circumstance in which the critical event occurred. In fact, we investigate the trigger, the event, and the context, and we have to integrate all of that information within the clinical picture, from the pathology right through to the symptom—indeed a multi-dimensional task.

An ECG, or electrocardiogram, is a simple test that records the rhythm and electrical activity of the heart. It is commonly used to detect abnormal heart rhythms and investigate the cause of chest pains. It is important for clinicians to recognise and interpret ECG patterns accurately to ensure correct diagnosis and effective treatment. This book is step by step guide to performing and interpreting ECGs. Divided into 11 sections, the text begins with an overview of the history of ECGs and the physiology of the heart and its conduction system. The next chapters discuss the basics of ECG, the leads and their placement, and normal ECG morphology. The following sections cover systematic interpretation of ECGs, arrhythmias, paediatric ECG interpretation and congenital anomalies, and finally, differential diagnosis. The second edition of this practical guide has been fully revised to include the latest advances in the field. Line diagrams and clinical images further enhance learning. Key points Step by step guide to performing and interpreting ECGs Fully revised, second edition covering latest advances in the field Highly illustrated with line diagrams and clinical images Previous edition (9789350900864) published in 2012

This book discusses feature engineering and computational intelligence solutions for ECG monitoring, with a particular focus on how these methods can be efficiently used to address the emerging challenges of dynamic, continuous & long-term individual ECG monitoring and real-time feedback. By doing so, it provides a “snapshot” of the current research at the interface between physiological signal analysis and machine learning. It also helps clarify a number of dilemmas and encourages further investigations in this field, to explore rational applications of feature engineering and computational intelligence in ECG monitoring. The book is intended for researchers and graduate students in the field of biomedical engineering, ECG signal processing, and intelligent healthcare.

Computerized ECG exams are currently flourishing, and further development of these inexpensive and noninvasive diagnostic tools is expected in upcoming years. Because there is so much clinically relevant and useful information that can be obtained using modern electrocardiology, the editors strongly believe that a book summarizing current state-of-the-art methods of noninvasive electrocardiology will assist physicians in optimizing their clinical practice. Accordingly, the contributors comprise an international "who's who" in noninvasive electrocardiography. The object of noninvasive electrophysiology is to reconcile comprehensive invasive electrophysiology with conventional surface electrocardiography, by extracting from the latter more extensive and dynamic information. Numerous facets of these new orientations are presented in this book, which is organized in two main sections. Part one describes noninvasive ECG tests, their methodology, and applications. Part two focuses on specific clinical conditions and diseases, and allows the reader to learn when it is worth using specific tests and when they are not of much benefit. Clinical cardiologists and electrophysiologists at all levels will benefit from this well-written, informative update.

A fresh assessment of ischemic electrocardiography, its prognostic correlations, and the concepts and principles that underly its use The electrocardiogram (ECG) is integral to the accurate diagnosis and optimal management of patients with ischemic heart disease. Picking up a wide range of indicators, it provides valuable prognostic data to cardiologists and emergency medicine specialists for whom ECG readings are a trusted and everyday resource. Electrocardiography in Ischemic Heart Disease is designed to help enhance such clinicians' understanding of ECG recordings and their relationship to anatomical patterns of myocardial ischemia, thereby facilitating the continued improvement of patient care. For this new edition, the book's globally recognized team of authors has revised and expanded the original text to bring it up to date with the cardiology of today. Practical explanations of electrophysiological mechanisms, ischemic insults, and arterial occlusions are placed in the context of the ECG's day-to-day use, while full-color images illustrate core concepts in a vivid and instructive manner. This essential guide: Demonstrates correlations between ECG recordings and anatomical patterns of myocardial ischemia Covers STEMI, special forms of NSTEMI, and Q waves Describes electrocardiographic patterns of ischemia, injury, and infarction Explores advanced techniques such as contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance Electrocardiography in Ischemic Heart Disease is an indispensable resource for both trainee and practicing cardiologists, emergency medicine physicians, and any clinicians involved in the diagnosis and management of ischemic heart disease.
