The Australian Early Intervention Network for Mental Health in Young People (AusEinet) was established to coordinate a national approach to early intervention for mental health in young people. The approach has three streams: (1) development and maintenance of a national early intervention network for mental health in young people; (2) identification and promotion of good practices in early intervention; and (3) the reorientation of service delivery towards early intervention. This publication focuses on the reorientation stream of the project by presenting some practical models for the reorientation of service delivery to early intervention. It offers a guide to administrators and health professionals considering reorienting their own services to early intervention. Chapter 1 describes the reorientation strategies developed in each of the projects and attempts to show how reorientation was achieved in different types of agencies. Chapter 2 discusses the need for early intervention and presents an overview of the groups and individuals for whom early intervention may be most beneficial.
