From the pollution-infested landscape of urban areas to the leached soil of decimated rain forests, the human race has exerted its will on the environment with reckless abandon. In effect, humankind has become a most dangerous type of Earth Cancer. Now this rampant form of cancer is threatening the very existence of life on this planet. Is it our divine right to control all species and habitats? Does our insatiable hunger for expansion and disregard for the environment represent a collective death-wish by our species? If so, how can we change our fate? This extraordinary book confronts these questions by studying the complex relationship between ethics, economics, and ecology. More than a chronicle of environmental devastation, Earth Cancer challenges human beings to examine and redefine their economic, social, and moral values in a way that respects the interdependence of the biosphere. Only when this level of self-understanding is reached can humans realize their full potential as intelligent species and preserve the earth's ecology for future generations. The facts are shocking. Every day on Earth, approximately 75 plant and animal species are driven into biological extinction. Forests are being destroyed and the wealth of our planet's resources are being depleted at an astounding rate. The planet as we know it is facing a barren future unless the human race can halt the spread of a cancer that holds Earth's fate in the balance. To fight back, we must come to terms with several harsh realities: 1. Human beings must realize that our destiny is inextricably linked to the preservation of other species and environmental resources. 2. We must adjust our perspective to view the human race as an equal, interdependent part of the biosphere, not as ruler over it. 3. We must temper our seemingly unquenchable thirst for progress with a more holistic vision for the long-term survival of our species. In short, we must confront the source of this deadly earth cancer—ourselves. Earth Cancer sounds a wake-up call for humanity. Weigel contends that humans have constructed a self-defeating Berlin Wall between themselves and other species. This wall is built from arrogance toward the environment as symbolized by the systematic destruction of habitats and the reckless generation of waste. As our blind pursuit of economic development and expansion continues to prevail over ecological concern, the wall grows larger and the devastation more prolific. Weigel explains that humans face a moral and ethical imperative to stem this tide before it is too late. Because the fate of so many species is dependent upon the decisions we make, the ideal of interdependence with all other members of the biosphere must be embraced. This important book provides new insight about our attitude toward the environment and suggests that a change in our priorities could mean a change in our destiny.

"How strange that a cancer story is a story of earth, of being a creature on earth--this particular, damaged earth, at this time--a thing of nature, responding to natural laws, like any wild being, be it river or sparrow or cloud. How strange to occupy a mortal body for what is, in the end, a very short time, in total denial of death. It took two years of living with metastatic cancer to recognize there is no difference, to recognize that living is not separate from dying. It is not yet time to dig a grave, but time to wander the woods, seeking a good site. It is time to gather all I love most around me. It is a time, as always throughout my life, to write. An accurate journal of today would be similar to the burned journals of thirty years ago--nature as a steadying force in the path of a stumbling soul. You think you're making a soul, when it's not that simple. It's being made, and you're only partly the maker. This is not fighting cancer, but fighting for dignity and purpose in the face of it. An atheist to the end, to my mind this is nevertheless enacting spirit, what is beyond the body's story. The body's questions, like languages, originate in the earth; they return to the earth"--Provided by publisher.

"Heaven and Earth: Cancer Unleashed" is a hybrid science-fiction/self-help book. The science-fiction portion involves aliens from Treretum, a planet that orbits around the Sirius star system, who have visited Earth in the past and now share a common problem: invasion of the two planets by the Muimdac, a microscopic invader from outer space that invades the bodies of its host victims, consuming them from within and transforming them into agents who can then further their cause (Muimdac transforms). The story line includes scenes on Earth, on Treretum, and in the alien spacecraft that is racing back to its home planet at near the speed of light. The Earthly protagonists include Olga Ramos, a brilliant NASA engineer, and her friend and soulmate, Cuauhtémoc Gavilán, an environmentalist and protector of his Mother Earth through the operation of his environmental remediation firm. Their story includes a cross-country road trip from Los Angeles to Atlanta and interaction with scientists and engineers from the CDC and Georgia Tech, members of the LAPD and the FBI, alien protectors Cinz and Reppoc, and others. Two additional alien protagonists, Nivla and Suturb, are racing home against a distress signal sent at the time of the insurrection that resulted in their taking control of their spacecraft while concurrently dealing with an infestation of Muimdac. On Treretum, Nivla's family and others are having to deal with a corrupt planetary government, dominated by Muimdac transforms. The self-help portion of the book is incorporated into the sci-fi story line and is expanded upon in the "Cadmium Poisoning Facts" section at the end of each chapter and the appendices at the end of the book. (Muimdac is cadmium spelled backward.) These sections describe the toxicity of the carcinogenic heavy metal, its source as a contaminant in phosphate fertilizers and consequent introduction into the food chain, and its relationship with not only various forms of cancer, but also with other diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, osteoporosis, autoimmune diseases, and induced zinc deficiency, which increases susceptibility to viral attack, including infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus responsible for the current COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, cadmium is not on the radar screen of the medical community.

The Cosmic Cancer written by David Louis Sussman and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-11 with Social Science categories.

Population growth and harmful human lifestyles have pushed Earth's environment to the brink, threatening the future of its inhabitants. Ingrained behaviors will not be changed easily. Author David Louis Sussman spent his career as an international business consultant, advocating for greater awareness of population issues. Through years of experience, he has observed the human condition and its behavioral consequences. Humanity's fundamental condition is the illusion of choice, whereas the reality is a virtual total dependence of our behavioral repertoire on genetic influences, as for any other animal. These behaviors, in civilized society, are responsible for much of the degradation in Earth's environment. Sussman analyzes fundamental issues that must be addressed: Failure to nurture our youth, even though their attitudes and actions will determine the future of live on Earth Emphasis upon rights rather than responsibilities in democracy Sexual repression and its destabilizing consequences Exploitation of mysticism by political and religious operatives The schism between science and philosophy, and the perils of grandstanding environmentalismThe human behavioral repertoire has brought about colossal changes in the planet we inherited-changes for the worse rather than the better. This is not merely an American problem; our behaviors are universally shared. The Cosmic Cancer explains how they are the outgrowth of the fundamental human condition, and the transcendental changes in the level of awareness and our behavioral repertoire that are essential for extended continuation of life on Earth as we know it.

“For the second time in my life, I was faced with a pivotal choice: either be pulled down by the quicksand of self-doubt, anguish and despair; or find strength to help others because of my own trauma.” Katie McGrath’s first three years of life were idyllic, surrounded by love and family in the affluent Sydney harbourside suburb of Hunters Hill. Her parents worked hard to create a beautiful home for their young children, unaware that deadly radioactive waste was buried beneath the garden and foundations — a seeping malice which would destroy many lives. Katie’s parents both died mysteriously from cancer in quick succession, leaving behind four young orphans. The grieving children were forced into a hostile foster home where they had to learn to survive. Katie’s only escape became an imaginary white brick house with no doors or windows where she cocooned herself to escape the horrors of her young life. Years later, after she has forged a successful life for herself with two daughters and a high-flying corporate career, Katie’s world is once again turned upside down. She discovers suspicious details surrounding her parents’ deaths – and the deaths of others who lived on the very same idyllic street – and she vows to uncover the truth at all costs.
