Earth To Earth written by Martin John Hill and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Environment (Art) categories.

From the earth and returning to earth - it is a cycle of regeneration that has existed for millennia. Award-winning artist and photographer Martin Hill takes his inspiration from the natural beauty of this circle of life. It is his concern about the destructive linear design - take, make, waste - of contemporary society that led him to use his art as a forum to promote ecological sustainability. Whether the top of a snow-dusted mountain, or the sand of a windblown beach, each of Martin's locations is left in the state in which it was found. His stunning natural sculptures achieve permanence only in his acclaimed photography, showcased here in this stunning book. In his own words: 'My inspiration comes for being immersed in and learning from the natural world. I work in nature because we are nature. My material comes from the earth to which they return harmlessly after use. My photographs are made with the same sunlight that powers all the earth's living systems.'

The Ethics Of Earth Art written by Amanda Boetzkes and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-30 with Philosophy categories.

Since its inception in the 1960s, the earth art movement has sought to make visible the elusive presence of nature. Though most often associated with monumental land-based sculptures, earth art encompasses a wide range of media, from sculpture, body art performances, and installations to photographic interventions, public protest art, and community projects. In The Ethics of Earth Art, Amanda Boetzkes analyzes the development of the earth art movement, arguing that such diverse artists as Robert Smithson, Ana Mendieta, James Turrell, Jackie Brookner, Olafur Eliasson, Basia Irland, and Ichi Ikeda are connected through their elucidation of the earth as a domain of ethical concern. Boetzkes contends that in basing their works’ relationship to the natural world on receptivity rather than representation, earth artists take an ethical stance that counters both the instrumental view that seeks to master nature and the Romantic view that posits a return to a mythical state of unencumbered continuity with nature. By incorporating receptive surfaces into their work—film footage of glaring sunlight, an aperture in a chamber that opens to the sky, or a porous armature on which vegetation grows—earth artists articulate the dilemma of representation that nature presents. Revealing the fundamental difference between the human world and the earth, Boetzkes shows that earth art mediates the sensations of nature while allowing nature itself to remain irreducible to human signification.

My photographs are made with the same sunlight that powers all the earth's living systems. --Martin Hill * Reminiscent of the internationally best-selling Earth from Above, Martin Hill's Earth to Earth transforms the beauty of everyday items found in nature and elevates them to ecological art. Ecology is a science that is entering its renaissance as issues of global warming, greenhouse emissions, and ozone depletion make their way from scientific debates and newspaper headlines to family breakfast tables. Environmental photographer Martin Hill and project collaborator Philippa Jones visit remote locations around the globe to create a stunning array of evocative photographs that represent a visual circle of life promoting ecological sustainability and responsibility. In addition to an eloquent introduction by Sir Edmund Hillary, ecologically minded quotes and facts appear throughout the collection: * Each day more solar energy falls to the earth than the total amount of energy the planet's six billion inhabitants would consume in 25 years. * What use is a house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on? In Earth to Earth Hill presents more than 70 transcendent four-color photographs that capture images of natural items found in nature, which he then transforms into exquisitely intricate sculptural masterpieces. Prior to leaving each location--whether at the top of a snow-covered mountain or on the sand-blown shores of a windy beach--Hill ensures that each site is left exactly as it was found.

Excerpt from Earth Sculpture: Or the Origin of Land-Forms Although much has been written, especially of late years, on the origin of surface-features, yet there is no English work to which readers not skilled in geology can turn for some general account of the whole subject. It is true that all geological text-books and many manuals of geography devote some space to its discussion, while not a few excellent treatises deal at large with one or more of its sub-divisions. Geological literature is also by no means poor in admirable popular monographs descriptive of the geology and geography of particular regions, in which the origin of their surface-features is more or less fully explained. But for those who may be desirous of acquiring some broad knowledge of the results arrived at by geologists as to the development of land-forms generally, no introductory treatise is available. Possibly, therefore, the present attempt to supply a deficiency may not be wholly unacceptable. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
