This little photo album is the first of a series of booklets covering trains and trams in Europe and is self published via Createspace. Most publishers aren't interested in work with European subjects so the author has employed the easy to use system provided by Amazon. He was accompanied on all trips, often by one of his brothers and sometimes by like minded work colleagues. Some of the photos were even taken during family holidays! The author made five trips to the German Democratic Republic ; in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1983. It was an interesting place to visit and could be very cheap if west marks were exchanged for east marks on the black market. Hotels had to be booked in advance via Berolina Travel and persistence could result in being allowed to stay in hotels in the smaller towns such as the excellent Wilderman at Annaberg -Bucholz, where free enterprise was evident long before unification. These trips included visits to all nine of the remaining narrow gauge lines and this booklet includes photographs from five of those lines, taken in May 1981 and May 1983. All the lines in this booklet are still open today in some form. The photographs in this booklet were taken with a Bronica ETR-C, 6 x 4.5 cm 15 on 120 roll film camera using exclusively Kodak Ektachrome 64 asa colour slide film. Part Two will cover all nine of the lines with pictures taken by the author's faithful Pentax KX 35 mm camera using Kodak colour slide film.

Tramway Renaissance In Western Europe written by Dejan Petkov and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-13 with Social Science categories.

Dejan Petkov explores the tramway renaissance in Western Europe from a socio-technical standpoint and focuses on the development in Germany, France, and England. A multiple case analysis reveals the drivers, impact forces, actors and interest constellations behind the tramway renaissance in these countries and demonstrates the large variations in local systems and their style. A key finding is that there can be quite different paths to the success of tramway systems, but this success usually comes at a cost and can have a comprehensive character only if the systems are considered an integral part of the overarching strategies and concepts for urban and regional development.

This little photo album is the second of a series of booklets covering trains and trams in Europe and is self published via Createspace. I was accompanied on all trips, often by one of my brothers and sometimes by like minded colleagues from work. I made five trips to the German Democratic Republic ; in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1983. These trips included visits to all nine of the remaining narrow gauge lines. The first booklet in this series 'East German Narrow Gauge Lines-Part One' includes photographs from five of those lines, taken in May 1981 and May 1983. This booklet, Part Two, covers all nine of the lines with pictures taken by my faithful Pentax KX 35 mm camera using Kodak colour slide film which has stood the test of time very well. I only visited some lines once but others on a number of occasions and the Harz System every time we went to the DDR. This resulted in a large number of images and so another booklet, Part Three, will be produced concentrating on the Harz lines. I briefly revisited the two Ostsee lines in 1999 and a couple of shots are included.

Postcommunist Film Russia Eastern Europe And World Culture written by Lars Kristensen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-02-28 with Performing Arts categories.

A post-communist condition has arisen from the fall of the Berlin Wall and later the Soviet Empire: this book looks at how this condition has manifested itself globally in the production of post-communist film. It argues post-communism is a shared experience on a geopolitical level, unlimited by national state borders, and examines post-communist cross culturalism and global totalitarianism within film. The book examines different national cinemas and dissimilar cinematic modes - from Russian blockbuster cinema to Chinese independent cinema; from Serbian city films to revolutionary films of Mozambique - all formulated as within the postcommunist condition. It considers the postcommunist film in terms of transnational and World cinema. It covers a wide range of films from small and independent filmmaking to mainstream, popular cinema, and explains post-communist signifiers as manifested in visual culture both inside and outside former, and current, communist countries.
