This book is an enriched version of my other book that has a 5 stars review, "Can Tai Chi be self-learned?" Some viewers have asked me to do a step-by-step instruction book for Tai Chi. However, when I researched into the possibilities I found that Tai Chi is a lot more than martial arts and its principles can be applied into many Dong gong and Jing gong and even simple exercises. It is much better to know the principles and the guidelines to practice good Tai Chi than to confine the instructions into mundane step-by-step details. I have a YouTube video that can give viewers a brief introduction of the principles of Tai Chi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKMIMjjVqvk&t=369sThe essential principles on how to do tai chi in order to gain the benefits this present book I have quoted a qigong expert, Master Zhou Qian-chuan''s comment, "The main styles of Tai Chi quan as a form of martial arts, including the Yang, the Chen and the Wu, have designed the movements too complicated for qigong practice. For instance, the body turns, the footwork, and the various configurations of the fists, the palms and even the fingers for their extension, flexion, catching and punching are designed for combat with disguises and attacks from unexpected angles. The chest, the abdomen, the shoulders and even the head and necks do various functions in absorption and the nullification of the opponent''s attacks. As a result, the meridians are all tangled up in the martial arts training and real fighting. The 3 yang meridians of the hands 手三陽經(大腸、三焦、小腸large intestine, triple burner, small intestine)、and the three yang meridians of the legs 足三陽經(胃、膽、膀胱Stomach, gallbladder, bladder) are overemphasized and move too fast for the hand three yin meridians手三陰經(肺、心包、心Lung. Pericardium and heart and the foot three yin meridians足三陰經(脾、肝、腎spleen, liver, kidney)to catch up with the movements. From my observation, 30 % to 40% of the Tai Chi martial arts masters have this problem. Their complexion might look healthy with a glowing red face but when I examined them, most of those that fitted the above descriptions were diabetic and hypertensive with a numbness of the left side of the body. Most of these cases usually suffered from a stroke when they aged. My suggestion is for Tai Chi practitioners to convert Tai Chi back to its 13 poses as a form of qigong with simpler movements but with internal kung fu training as designed by the Taoists for the practice of Enlightenment and Longevity."I have a medical finding in this book to support Master Zhou''s claim. According to Dr. George Ho, the author of this book the acquisition of the CranioSacral Postural reflex of Tai Chi is essential if one wants to succeed in Tai Chi and sleeping qigong, which according to Master Huai-jin Nan can be practiced in a supine or a side-lying posture. However, there is no report of anybody succeeding in a prone posture. Also, the ability to lie supine or sideways for a long time without discomfort is also a good criterion. This has been substantiated by Dr. George Ho''s ability to lie still in a very relaxed manner during his dental treatments. This new usage of the sleeping qigong is invaluable for dental patients and dentists and should be taught to the public. If the Dental Association is interested I am willing to share my experiences in sleeping qigong.
