In an era of abundance, at least part of humanity has stopped thinking about the future provision of basic vital resources such water, energy and food. Storage actions, with all their variants whether real or imagined, are sources of innovation in the provision and treatment of crucial resources. This book deals with cases of water, food, energy and biodiversity storage as a response to a new era of scarcity. Examining multilevel storage policies, consumers’ practices and local organisations, author Giorgio Osti explores a variety of examples such as the need to stock agriculture produce, the industry and practices of food conservation, the role of artificial water basins in controlling floods and droughts and the development of batteries able to compensate for the intermittence of renewable energy sources. Storage and self-sufficiency can be achieved in many technical ways, at different territorial levels and according to different policies or philosophies. Da quando le strade di tutto il mondo si sono riempite di giovani inneggianti alla giustizia climatica, pare che la formula transizione ecologica sia sulla bocca di tutti. Come se fosse una novità, un colpo di genio che le élite a tutti i livelli – ONU, UE, governi nazionali – avrebbero partorito per venire incontro alle comprensibili istanze di ragazze e ragazzi. Il libro di Paola Imperatore ed Emanuele Leonardi smonta questa narrazione, mostrandola per quella che è: una menzogna. L’era della giustizia climatica, inaugurata nel 2019 dagli scioperi globali, è infatti in primo luogo la presa d’atto del fallimento dell’idea che la centralità del mercato possa risolvere la crisi climatica. Piaccia o meno, a dispetto dei trattati “ambientalisti” (Kyoto 1997 e Parigi 2015), l’aumento continuo delle emissioni negli ultimi trent’anni – e, anzi, l’incremento del tasso di emissione! – testimonia la disfatta di questa transizione ecologica dall’alto. Non è un caso che i climate strike dicano una cosa semplice: “grazie per il tentativo, non è andata, lasciate spazio a noi” – cioè all’alternativa radicale, di sistema. Emerge dunque uno spazio politico inedito, tutto da riempire ma già ora carico di straordinario potenziale: la transizione ecologica dal basso, basata sul connubio imprescindibile tra protezione ambientale e contrasto alle diseguaglianze sociali. Su questo sfondo, il libro reinterpreta la storia dei movimenti ecologisti in Italia, le dimensioni della giustizia climatica odierna e l’esplosione della convergenza delle lotte – guidata da realtà diverse, con approccio intersezionale, su impulso del Collettivo di Fabbrica della ex-GKN di Campi Bisenzio.
