Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Market research, grade: A, , course: Agricultural & Resource Economics, language: English, abstract: This study examined the economic analysis of tomato spoilage in selected markets of Ondo State. The study was carried out in Akure South, Akure North, Owo and Ondo West Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ondo State, Nigeria. The specific objectives of this study were to: describe the socioeconomic characteristics of tomato marketers in the selected markets, identify factors that cause tomato spoilage, examine the methods used by tomato marketers in minimizing tomato spoilage, and estimate the amount of loss due to spoilage in the selected markets. A total of eighty (80) respondents were selected for the study through the use of multistage sampling procedure. Data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics and formulae for calculating losses associated with spoilage. The study shows that 35% of the marketers were male and 65% were female, the largest percentage (27.5) of the marketers fell in age group 30-39 and 40-49 years. About 53.75% of the marketers source their capital through personal savings. Only 16.25% of the marketers were illiterate while the remaining 83.75% attended at least primary school and this made little arithmetic to be easily done. The main cause of tomato spoilage was attributed to impact damage (especially collision during transportation due to bad roads) as seventy seven (77) of the marketers affirm this. The main spoilage reduction method adopted by the marketers was proper sorting of the tomato, seventy six (76) of the marketers affirm this. The average loss due to spoilage was estimated as follows; Percentage loss was 16.05%, Quantitative loss was 22.24Kg and Economic loss was N2,396.04. The main problem encountered by the marketers was loss. Therefore, a lot of tomatoes were lost to spoilage due to impact damage and hence it is recommended to reduce spoilage level by establishing tomato processing industries in Ondo State.

Value chain based approaches offer tremendous scope for market-based improvements in production, productivity, rural economy diversification, and household incomes, but are often covered by literature that is too conceptual or heavily focused on analysis. This has created a gap in the information available to planners, practitioners, and value chain participants. Furthermore, few references are available on how these approaches can be applied specifically to developing agriculture in Africa. 'Building Competitiveness in Africa s Agriculture: A Guide to Value Chain Concepts and Applications' describes practical implementation approaches and illustrates them with scores of real African agribusiness case studies. Using these examples, the 'Guide' presents a range of concepts, analytical tools, and methodologies centered on the value chain that can be used to design, implement, and evaluate agricultural and agribusiness development initiatives. It stresses principles of market focus, collaboration, information sharing, and innovation. The 'Guide' begins by examining core concepts and issues related to value chains. A brief literature review then focuses on five topics of particular relevance to African agricultural value chains. These topics address challenges faced by value chain participants and practitioners that resonate through the many cases described in the book. The core of the book presents methodological tools and approaches that blend important value chain concepts with the topics and with sound business principles. The tools and case studies have been selected for their usefulness in supporting market-driven, private-sector initiatives to improve value chains. The 'Guide' offers 13 implementation approaches, presented within the implementation cycle of a value chain program, followed by descriptions of actual cases. Roughly 60 percent of the examples are from Africa, while the rest come from Europe, Latin America, and Asia. The 'Guide' offers useful guidance to businesspeople, policy makers, representatives of farmer or trade organizations, and others who are engaged in agro-enterprise and agribusiness development. These readers will learn how to use value chain approaches in ways that can contribute to sound operational decisions, improved market linkage, and better results for enterprise and industry development.

Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Biology - Micro- and Molecular Biology, grade: 6 (IB), , course: IB Diploma Programme, language: English, abstract: This paper aims to explore the changes in the pH of milk and the process of creaming that taken together represent the dependent variable, that is UHT milk spoilage. Most importantly, the connection between fat content and the dependent variable will be investigated. The research suggests that the rate of UHT milk spoilage increases with the amount of fat present in the milk, and this investigation will assess the validity of this statement. The importance of this subject is significant because UHT milk consumption constantly increases, reaching the threshold of 119 million tons in 2019 and constitutes a strong fundament of people’s diet. The research extends the knowledge about the process of UHT milk spoilage and its link with fat content as well as gives food for thought when it comes to the UHT milk preservation methods, shelf life, and the impact of other ingredients on the process of spoilage.

Towards Sustainable Global Food Systems written by Ruerd Ruben and has been published by MDPI this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-30 with Technology & Engineering categories.

One of the major knowledge challenges in the domain of Resilient and Sustainable Food Systems refers to the integration of perspectives on consumption, patterns that support public health, inclusive value chains, and environmentally sustainable food production. While there is a long record of the analysis of separate interventions, this special issue generates integrated insights, provides cross-cutting perspectives, and outlines practical and policy solutions that address these global challenges. The collection of papers promotes the view that sustainable food systems require thorough insights into the structure and dynamics of agri-food production systems, the drivers for integrating food value chains and markets, and key incentives for supporting healthier consumer choices. On the production side, potential linkages between agricultural commercialization and intensification and their effects for food security and nutritional outcomes are analyzed. Value Chains are assessed for their contribution to improving exchange networks and markets for food products that simultaneously support efficiency, circularity, and responsiveness. Individual motives and market structures for food consumption need to be understood in order to be able to outline suitable incentives to enhance healthy dietary choice. The contributed papers focus on interfaces between food system activities and processes of adaptive change that are critical for overcoming key constraints and trade-offs between sustainable food and healthy diets.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - General, grade: 1.3, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, 52 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: This paper is concerned with an economic analysis of Frey's Motivation Crowding-Out Theory, which states that monetary rewards crowd-out intrinsic motivation. Crowding-out effects, conditions as well as implications for economics will be examined in detail by analyzing the highly controversial psychological and economic, mainly human resource, literature. Throughout the paper, the question whether crowding-out effects are of relevance to classical economic theory will be looked at from different point of views. Finally, a conclusion suggests that at this state of information an integration of the concept of crowding-out is not recommendable.
