How are curriculum policies translated into opportunities to learn in the classroom? According to the Book presents findings from the largest cross-national study of textbooks carried out to date - the curriculum analysis of the 1995 Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). This study included a detailed, page-by-page, inventory of the mathematics and science content, pedagogy, and other characteristics collected from hundreds of textbooks in over forty countries. Drawing on these data, the authors investigate the rhetorical and pedagogical features of textbooks to understand how they promote and constrain educational opportunities. They investigate how textbooks are constructed and how they structure diverse elements into prescriptions for teaching practice. The authors break new ground in understanding textbooks in terms of different educational opportunities that they make possible. The book examines policy implications from these new understandings. In particular, conclusions are offered regarding the role of textbooks in curriculum-driven educational reform, in light of their role as promoters of qualitatively distinct educational opportunities.

For courses in Classroom Assessment, Test and Measurement, and training of teachers. This core text for courses in classroom assessment is the leading text for courses where the focus is squarely on teaching teachers and preservice teachers how to assess students in their day-to-day classrooms. It takes a stronger focus than any other book on integrating assessment and instruction. And it provides very clear guidance on how to construct all types of items and tests, but also explains better than any other text what each type of item can and cannot assess.

Teaching General Music written by Carlos R. Abril and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-06 with Music categories.

General music is informed by a variety of teaching approaches and methods. These pedagogical frameworks guide teachers in planning and implementing instruction. Established approaches to teaching general music must be understood, critically examined, and possibly re-imagined for their potential in school and community music education programs. Teaching General Music brings together the top scholars and practitioners in general music education to create a panoramic view of general music pedagogy and to provide critical lenses through which to view these frameworks. The collection includes an examination of the most prevalent approaches to teaching general music, including Dalcroze, Informal Learning, Interdisciplinary, Kodály, Music Learning Theory, Orff Schulwerk, Social Constructivism, and World Music Pedagogy. In addition, it provides critical analyses of general music and teaching systems, in light of the ways children around the world experience music in their lives. Rather than promoting or advocating for any single approach to teaching music, this book presents the various approaches in conversation with one another. Highlighting the perceived and documented benefits, limits, challenges, and potentials of each, Teaching General Music offers myriad lenses through which to re-read, re-think, and re-practice these approaches.

Learning Strategies And Learning Styles written by Ronald R. Schmeck and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-11 with Psychology categories.

A style is any pattern we see in a person's way of accomplishing a particular type of task. The "task" of interest in the present context is education-learning and remembering in school and transferring what is learned to the world outside of school. Teachers are expressing some sort of awareness of style when they observe a particular action taken by a particular student and then say something like: "This doesn't surprise me! That's just the way he is. " Observation of a single action cannot reveal a style. One's impres sion of a person's style is abstracted from multiple experiences of the person under similar circumstances. In education, if we understand the styles of individual students, we can often anticipate their perceptions and subsequent behaviors, anticipate their misunderstandings, take ad vantage of their strengths, and avoid (or correct) their weaknesses. These are some of the goals of the present text. In the first chapter, I present an overview of the terminology and research methods used by various authors of the text. Although they differ a bit with regard to meanings ascribed to certain terms or with regard to conclusions drawn from certain types of data, there is none theless considerable agreement, especially when one realizes that they represent three different continents and five different nationalities.

Sound And Structure written by John Paynter and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-04-23 with Juvenile Nonfiction categories.

In the pioneering Sound and Silence (1970, CUP), Paynter and Peter Aston set out to demonstrate the importance of drawing on children's creative talent as the basis for music education. Their book reflected work that its authors had been doing in schools and colleges during the preceding decade. Much that has happened since in music education has in no small measure been influenced by Sound and Silence and by subsequent publications of John Paynter's. Now, twenty years later, John Paynter, himself a composer, views some thirty years of teaching music. His basic philosophy is the same: music is a creative art in all its modes--composing (inventing), performing (interpreting) and listening (remaking the music within ourselves). Today, John Paynter believes as firmly as ever that creativity is the starting point for all music education. To meet the new demands and fresh opportunities of a progressive educational program there have been developments in this philosophy. The projects and assignments in Sound and Structure are the fruits of this development. A cassette accompanies John Paynter's book, and contains those musical examples that may be difficult for the reader to obtain from usual sources. The cassette will complete the reader's enjoyment of the book.
