Education for Tomorrow A Biocentric, Student-Focused Approach to Education Reform Michael Risku University of the Incarnate Word, USA and Letitia Harding University of the Incarnate Word, USA There are many books on the market which discuss indigenous ways of knowing, and bemoan western society’s seeming lack of interest in anything other than scientific fact-based knowledge. Equally plentiful are the writings of critical theorists who consider today’s public education system to be divisive, and manipulated by those in power to ensure that their children have the educational advantages needed to maintain the elite hierarchical status quo. Education for Tomorrow is unique in that it brings both of these approaches together first by examining the ways that indigenous people and women of all cultures acquire and pass on knowledge, and the deleterious effects that enforced Eurocentric systems have had on that process. The authors then turn to public schools to explore the influences, both good and bad, that today’s programs have on the distribution of opportunities afforded to all children in the United States. Finally, they offer suggestions for a revolutionary education system which highlights the need for all students to have the encouragement and freedom to look critically and rationally at their lives and at their relationship with the natural world. This can be achieved by looking back to the pedagogical methods of our indigenous ancestors, and forward to a time when all children, regardless of ethnic or socio-economic heritage, are taught in such a way that every aspect of their lives is addressed, nurtured, valued, and enhanced.

'It's time to focus on the needs of our children, not the whims of our politicians, to provide a way forward for a new landscape in education.' Is our education system working? What future are we preparing our children for? What future do we NEED to prepare our children for? Are we at risk of failing a generation? In this updated edition of renowned education speaker Richard Gerver's book we are faced with these worrying questions and many more regarding the schools our children are attending, the curriculum they are following and the testing system used to catagorise them. In this rousing call for educational revolution, Richard argues passionately that we must fight harder for our children's futures and we must do it today! Richard describes the strategies he used when he was brought in as head teacher to turn around Grange Primary school. It was there that he implemented his vision for a school system that caters for every child; a system that helps nurture self-confidence, self-worth, creativity, innovative thinking, team-working and communication skills - all key employability skills that children will need in the fast-moving world of technology and information they are growing up in. Richard is now the second most successful education speaker in the world behind Sir Ken Robinson, who describes Richard as 'one of the clearest and most passionate voices for radical change in education' and wrote the foreword for this book. Richard has updated Creating Tomorrow's Schools Today based on his visits to schools on every continent, his conversations on education with teachers and industry-leading visionaries such as Steve Wozniak, and in the context of an education system that he fears is forgetting the future we need to prepare our children for. Reforms, tweaks and new policies are not enough – a radical transformation is needed. If you read only one Education manifesto in the next year, this is it! Join the conversation: #Edvision

Tomorrow's Teachers, Tomorrow's Schools, and Tomorrow's Schools of Education are a collection of reports from the Holmes Group, and later the Holmes Partnership, addressing principles of teaching as a profession by focusing on the teachers' roles in the schools, the role of schools in communities, and the role and obligation of schools and colleges of education in the preparation of teachers. Tomorrow's Teachers (1986) outlines the principles of teaching as a profession, which include making the education of teachers rigorous and relevant, providing defensible standards of entry into the profession, and connecting schools of education with K-12 schools. Tomorrow's Schools (1990) covers the principles for the design of professional development schools including promoting more ambitious conceptions of teaching and learning, adding to and reorganizing knowledge about teaching and learning, ensuring responsible research and development is done in schools, providing professional development for veteran teachers and administrators to improve schools, creating incentives for college faculties to work in schools, and strengthening relations between schools and the broader political/social/economic communities in which they reside. Tomorrow's Schools of Education (1995) advocates a new core curriculum for all prospective education professionals and the necessary restructuring of the organization of schools, colleges and departments of education in research universities. This collection is useful for courses on teacher education, curriculum development, restructuring schools of education and teacher preparation, educational administration, principles of teaching and learning, school reform, teacher reform, research on teaching and learning, research on the development of schools.

Schools Of Tomorrow written by John Dewey and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-02-29 with categories.

Modern day efforts in education reform often call for an examination of "out-of-the-box" approaches that appear to be achieving promising outcomes. John Dewey and his daughter Evelyn took just that approach in preparation for their 1915 book SCHOOLS OF TO-MORROW. John Dewey's reputation by this time was well established-not only in the field of education but also in psychology and philosophy. Evelyn was an experienced teacher with a special interest in experimentation, becoming involved with the Bureau of Educational Experiments and assisting her father in his educational investigations. Both father and daughter were intensely interested in the plight of immigrant and other disadvantaged students. John Dewey, drawing heavily on the philosophy of Rousseau, envisions learning as a child's natural propensity, given his or her awareness of approaching adulthood. Educators tend, he believes, to overstress the traditional (one might say "unnatural") academic components of public education at the expense of the child's innate desire to learn how to be a successful adult. The text includes numerous real-life examples of teachers and students involved in the above approach, with photographs showing students engaged in learning. While these illustrations are taken from a century ago, one can easily imagine the same scenes with students involved in activities related to today's technological, economic, and scientific fields.
