A research configuration was formed by attaching wraparound fins in a cruciform arrangement to a 10-caliber Army-Navy spinner projectile. This configuration was tested in a supersonic tunnel to get the Magnus force and moment, as well as the normal force and pitching moment. Model spin rate was generated by means of fin cant.

The Effect Of Base Bleed On The Drag And Magnus Characteristics Of A Rotating Body Of Revolution written by Frank J. Regan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1972 with Body of revolution categories.

Base bleed is a technique whereby all or part of the boundary layer is 'bled' from the rear portion of a projectile to the base region. Passage from the model's surface to the base region is by means of concentric cylindrical passageways. The purpose of base bleed is to reduce the Magnus moment on overlong spinning bodies of revolution and to reduce the base drag. Both analytic and experimental results are presented. The boundary layer is represented by means of the momentum thickness.

Regan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1972 with Magnus effect categories.

The report is the first in a two-part series of technical reports on the dynamics and aerodynamics of free-fall stores using freely spinning stabilizers. Presented are the results of recent wind-tunnel measurements of the normal force, pitching moment and Magnus force and moment on the M823 Research Store in transonic flow. Comparisons are made between configurations equipped with fixed and freely spinning stabilizers, with regard to sign and relative magnitude of the Magnus force and moment. A method is presented and applied whereby the Magnus force and moment are corrected for flow angularity.

The Joint Nol Rae Wre Research Program On Bomb Design written by Frank J. Regan and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1974 with Ballistics categories.

Since 1964 extensive and successful collaboration in a bomb dynamics program has continued between research organizations in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. Various aspects of this joint effort have been reported in separate reports: Part 1 treated the dynamics, aerodynamics and performance of free-fall weapons stabilized by fixed cruciform stabilizers. Part 2 gave a similar treatment of split-skirt stabilizers. Part 3 reviewed results obtained from the use of freely spinning panel stabilizers. This series of reports is concluded in the present document which discusses the task of the ballistician in light of the knowledge gained during the program and illustrates the application of the techniques derived to missile design. In addition, brief reference is made to a number of research projects which have stemmed from the original tripartite work.
