Divorce has long been viewed as a single phenomenon affecting two individuals without considering the framework conditions in which it occurs. Due to the increase of divorce rates in the past decades researchers have changed their perspective and have concentrated on the view of divorce as a personal experience that is greatly affected by the socials and economic environment. The aim of this thesis is to investigate divorce that has become a mass phenomenon in our present society. The assumption is that in order to understand the grounds for divorce and its consequences, we have to view divorce as a phenomenon that occurs at the intersection of personal, socio-economic and legal factors. Family disputes involve persons who have interdependent and continued relati- ships and arise in a context of distressing emotions. Separation and divorce affect all the members of the family, especially children. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of divorce as a psychological process that is situated within a social and a legal context. It presents a comprehensive view of divorce as a psychosocial, economic and legal phenomenon and contains a review of the research literature about divorce and its consequences for parents and children. Moreover, it describes divorce by proposing conceptual frames and explanatory models.

Counseling Adolescents Competently is a comprehensive text for students and professionals compiling foundational and emerging skills in the counseling field. Authors Lee A. Underwood, Ph.D. and Frances L.L. Dailey, Ph.D. review extensive interventions ranging from assessment to diagnosis as well as fresh perspectives on working with this often challenging group. Employing clinical case scenarios and profiles that demonstrate key issues, this book helps the counselor-in-training to understand the relevant theories and research around adolescents to better engage in culturally relevant interventions and treatment planning. Key Features Unlike most literature related to behavioral health services for adolescents, this text is crafted specifically for the profession of counseling, yet is applicable for all behavioral health providers. Case scenarios address critical issues impacting today’s adolescents including their characteristics, technology issues, diagnoses and typologies, special needs, and interventions involving treatment planning. Themes that are commonly faced by teens, including trauma, grief, loss, emotional issues, sexual development, and peers are covered. A diverse range of adolescents from both urban and non-urban settings are examined. This book addresses a broad audience that includes students in behavioral health training, counseling, and school programs; the practicing provider; and administrative/clinical supervisors and educators.

This is a fully-revised and updated version of the top academic work in forensic psychology. Focussed mainly on the practical aspects of forensics, this volume provides all readers need to know to be effective practioners. Detailed sections cover both civil and criminal forensic practice; forensic report writing; treating mental illness in the incarcerated; andethicsal issues. Contributors are the best-known and most respected practitioners in the field from the US and Canada. All chapters are completely revised from the previous edition, including 6 which have new authors. Forensic psychology is one of the fastest-growing specialties in the field. In Qur experience, there is bias and inconsistency in much of what is written about the effects of divorce on offspring. When interested students have asked for appropriate resources, we have been hard-pressed to respond without providing a long list of contradictory sources. Much of what is currently available reflects the cultural bias that parental divorce is one of the worst things that can happen to offspring. This book has grown out of our desire to provide a comprehensive, accessible, balanced, and readable resource for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in the effects of divorce upon offspring. We also hope that it will be useful to parents and practicing professionals who are not familiar with the empirical literature addressing this situation. Our primary goal is to evaluate and summarize the empirical literature in this field. However, we illustrate important points with examples drawn from autobiographies completed as part of a class assignment or from client histories based on one of the author's (KNB) counseling with families who are experiencing separation and divorce. We have selected life stories that describe problems in order to show possible results and that even difficult situations can have a positive resolution. Although the individuals involved may recognize themselves, there is insufficient information for anyone else to make an identification.
