Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Didactics - Common Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, grade: 1.7, Technical University of Chemnitz (English and American Studies), language: English, abstract: Throughout this thesis, extensive literature research aims at answering the question of what benefits teaching language construction processes can bring to teaching English as a foreign language. As a more practical part, a curriculum is developed based on insights from the literature and the Saxon state curriculum as a framework for all teaching in Saxon state schools. After the presentation of the curriculum, this thesis discusses its content and the theoretical background, justifies the decisions in its development gives an honest overview of its advantages and challenges. In the conclusion, a presentation of limitations and implications completes the thesis. Language construction describes the intentional development of a language. Even though this is often used for fictional works or linguistic experiments, the processes of language construction could also be used for natural languages. Not only does language construction require and foster the ability to reflect on language, meaning metalinguistic awareness; but it leads learners to an active engagement with the language. Learners would be given the toolset of metalinguistic awareness as an approach to all languages and language features they encounter.

Bilingual education, or CLIL, at primary school varies greatly across European educational contexts. Teaching Young Learners in Bilingual Settings reports on a study that explored one such CLIL context in Dortmund, Germany. Through interviews and classroom observations, the researcher and author sought not only to document some of what takes place in CLIL classrooms but to describe and understand teachers' thoughts and beliefs about their CLIL teaching practices. This research contributes to a better understanding of primary school CLIL programs and teachers and is relevant for researchers working in the fields of foreign language education, bilingual education, and language teacher cognition research. Furthermore, the insights into CLIL teachers' thinking can support CLIL teachers, administrators, and policy makers as they seek to further develop CLIL pedagogy and programs.

This book employs the realm of English Language Teaching (ELT) as a discursive point of departure to explore how individuals, groups, entities and institutions apprehend, embrace, deal with, manipulate, problematize and resist glocal flows of people, ideas, information, goods, and technology. It apprehends and attends to tensions arising from the fluidly local-global construction and negotiation of borders of identity and interaction within a diverse array of contexts and English education therein. These tensions, whether conceptual or pedagogical, may arise in and through governmental and institutional policymaking, teacher training, or curriculum and materials development, and in the learning experience both within and beyond the classroom, as teachers and students engage with course content and each other.

Rather than viewing language learning as solely a cognitive process, researchers today believe that using a socio-critical perspective creates equity within the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) community. These approaches challenge traditional paradigms by examining how social structures, ideologies, and classroom practices influence learners’ experiences and opportunities. The importance of integrating socio-critical frameworks into EFL research highlights the potential to foster more inclusive, reflective, and socially responsive language education. Pioneering Socio-Critical Approaches in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) Research explores the change in traditional teaching of EFL. This book contemplates the issues and challenges with traditional teaching using real world examples. Covering topics such as classroom practice, language learning, and translanguaging, this book is an excellent resource for academicians, educators, researchers, faculty, policymakers, administrators, and more.
