They were all alike built on a little stock of assumptions about the natural effects of shorter hours, which nobody seemed to think it necessary to verify. Even the economists who ventured into the play, though they perhaps speculated with more system, still speculated with the same unverified materials, and obtained accordingly only the same problematical results.
