Gut 120 Jahre später kann der renommierte Psychiater Heinz Häfner nach Sichtung bislang unbekannter Quellen zeigen: Auch nach den damals geltenden Kriterien war der König keineswegs geisteskrank.

Selten hat der Tod eines Monarchen so viel Raum für Spekulationen und Verschwörungstheorien geboten wie der König Ludwigs II. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die bedeutsamsten Ereignisse in Ludwigs letzten Tagen inhaltlich zusammenzufassen und einen prägnanten chronologischen Überblick zu geben. Hierbei soll sich erschließen, welchen Ereignissen besondere Bedeutung zukommt. Das zentrale Anliegen der Hauptuntersuchung ist es, die Wendepunkte und Schlüsselmomente seiner letzten Tage zu identifizieren und diese argumentativ als solche zu begründen. Im Laufe der Hauptuntersuchung wird sich zeigen, wie sich das Schicksal König Ludwigs II. Schritt für Schritt ergeben hat. In der Forschung ist vor allem der Tod Ludwigs ein heiß diskutiertes Thema. Forschungskontroversen gibt es darüber, was die genaue Todesursache war und ob Ludwig Selbstmord beging, bei einem Fluchtversuch starb oder ob er ermordet wurde. Diese Arbeit geht aufgrund der historisch belegten Quellen davon aus, dass Ludwig seine Selbstmordabsichten in die Tat umsetzte.

Hierbei wurden natürlich Briefe der beiden beachtet. Im nächsten Punkt das wohl wichtigste historische Ereignis in Ludwigs Herrschaftszeit behandelt, die Reichseinigung 1870/71. Besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf den Kaiserbrief und die Bewertung der Geldzahlungen an Ludwig II. gelegt.

The human brainstem has long been a neglected area in clinical medicine. This is shown by the fact that there is no introductory book on the neuroanatomy and pathology of this region. This book is intended to introduce the reader to the neuroanatomy of the human brainstem and combines an atlas with detailed information on the individual structures. The atlas features a state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging series, histological specimens (Darrow Red and Campbell staining) and a plastinate-based topographical part, which allows direct comparison of histological and topographical findings with neuroimaging. In addition, the reader is guided along the brainstem neuromer model through the human brainstem and learns about the functional properties of the individual structures of the brainstem. Where appropriate, peripheral targets of brainstem structures are illustrated and explained. Furthermore, each chapter covers the most important neurological disorders affecting the brainstem.
