Der Band 6 der Reihe Beiträge zur Technikdidaktik ermöglicht einen Streifzug durch aktuelle Forschungsarbeiten zu unterschiedlichsten Themenfeldern der allgemeinbildenden Technikdidaktik. Dabei wird zugleich ein Spannungsbogen über verschiedene Schularten, von der Primar- über die Sekundarstufe bis hin zur Hochschule geschlagen. "Alle Fehler, die man machen kann, macht irgendeiner mal" (befragte Lehrkraft zitiert nach Schray & Geißel, 2016, S. 117). Dem Desiderat, spezielle Gestaltungsvarianten von Technikunterricht zu prüfen, die die curricular intendierten Ziele zur Fehlersuche an elektronischen Schaltungen der Sekundarstufe 1 besonders günstig fördern können, begegnet die vorliegende Arbeit mit der Untersuchung einer situierten Unterrichtskonzeption im Anschluss an den Cognitive Apprenticeship Ansatz. In einer Synthese aus lerntheoretischen Ausführungen und evidenzbasierter Befundlage wird ein umfangreiches Unterrichtssetting erarbeitet und in einem schulpraktischen Feldexperiment im Vergleich zu einem traditionellen Unterricht orientiert an der Fertigungsaufgabe längsschnittlich geprüft. Die Untersuchungsergebnisse können dahingehend interpretiert werden, dass mit der erarbeiteten Unterrichtskonzeption eine weitestgehend positive Kompetenzentwicklung bei Schüler(innen) erreicht werden kann. Sowohl im elektrotechnischen Fachwissen als auch in der Fehleranalysefähigkeit steigern Lernende ihre Outputqualitäten mit einem mittleren bis großen Effekt. Keine signifikanten Wechselwirkungen zeigen sich jedoch in den verschiedenen Motivationsformen, der emotionalen Befindlichkeit und der Freude an Denkaufgaben. Auch die Annahme, dass Lernumgebungen mit uniformen Repräsentationsformen effektiver für die Fehleranalyse innerhalb dieses Kontextes sind als multiple Formen sowie, dass Lernumgebungen mit multiplen Repräsentationsformen effektiver in der Transferfähigkeit der Fehleranalysefähigkeit sind als uniforme Formen, kann ebenfalls nicht bestätigt werden.

Virtual exchange refers to education programmes in which constructive communication and interaction takes place between individuals or groups from different cultural backgrounds with the support of educators or facilitators. Evaluating and Upscaling Telecollaborative Teacher Education (EVALUATE, http://www.evaluateproject.eu/) was a European policy experimentation financed by Erasmus+ which studied the impact of a telecollaborative model of virtual exchange on student teachers. Between 2017-2018, the project consortium trained teacher trainers and organised virtual exchanges which involved over 1,000 student teachers at initial teacher education institutions. This entailed students interacting and collaborating with partner classes from other countries as an integral part of one of their courses. The research team then analysed the learning gains from these exchanges using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. They also worked with representatives from European ministries of education to understand how virtual exchange could be upscaled in teacher education across Europe. This publication presents the findings of the EVALUATE experimentation and its implications for the education of future teachers. The study found that engaging student teachers in structured online intercultural collaboration as part of their formal learning can contribute to the development of their digital-pedagogical, intercultural, and foreign language competences. It can also lead to innovation and international learning in the education of future teachers.

In this book the development of an instrument for the testing of students' procedural knowledge on scientific inquiry is described. The test instrument, called NAW-L test, was designed to measure differences in performance between German grade 5 students from the school type "Hauptschule" on the one hand and from thy type "Gymnasium" on the other. It was developed on the basis of a competence model, which predicts task difficulty. The quality of the NAW-L test was determined by Rasch analysis. Typical deficits of younger students in scientific reasoning and scientific inquiry mentioned in the literature could be replicated in this project, speaking for the validity of the test instrument.

This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate "translation." These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the "new" tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.

This book reports the findings from the tri-national video study Quality of Instruction in Physics (QuIP). Within the scope of the QuIP study, physics instruction was investigated in a total of 103 classes from-Finland, North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) and German-speaking Switzerland. The main aim was to identify typical patterns of physics instruction of the three samples and to investigate conditions under which these patterns are successful with respect to students' learning, interest and motivation. Among others instructional characteristics, the quality of students' practical work, successful patterns of sequencing, the subject matter structure and teaching strategies were investigated by means of analyses of video-recorded lessons. Variables external to instruction that were investigated included teachers' professional knowledge and students' cognitive abilities. The study followed a pre-post-design with data collection prior to and after an instructional unit on electrical energy and power. The results are well in line with the findings from large-scale international studies indicating a particularly successful instructional pattern in Finland. A comparison of characterisation of instruction in comparison between the three countries reveals important findings for the improvement of the teaching and learning of physics in secondary school education.
