Gegenwärtig erleben wir eine tiefgehende Krise aller ethischen Normen. Wir stehen nicht nur in einem rasanten Wertewandel, sondern in einem dramatischen Werteverfall. In dieser Situation genügt es nicht, bei der klassischen Frage stehenzubleiben: ""Was soll ich tun?"" Vielmehr gilt es, sich ganz neu der grundlegenden Frage zu stellen: ""Wie kann ich überhaupt erkennen, was ich zu tun habe?"" und ""Wie kann ich tun, was ich als richtig erkannt habe?"" Die vorliegende Einführung in die Ethik gibt auf diese Fragen in einer umfassenden, neuen Konzeption Antwort. Gegenüber den Einseitigkeiten einer allgemeinen Ethik, in der das Christliche keinen Platz mehr hat, und einer christlichen Ethik, die in einer zunehmend nichtchristlichen Gesellschaft ihre Relevanz verloren hat, bindet der Autor in einem heilsgeschichtlich differenzierten Entwurf beide Anliegen zusammen: gesellschaftliche, allgemein-menschliche Relevanz und Wahrnehmung des spezifisch Christlichen. Nach der Klärung der Grundlegenden ethischen Begriffe wir „Ethik“, „Moral“ und „Recht“ wird die Stellung der Ethik innerhalb der Systematischen Theologie diskutiert und die wichtigste Literatur zu Ethik wird vorgestellt. Dann werden in einem zweite Teil die wichtigsten Entwürfe säkularer Ethik dargestellt: die positivistische Ethik, die utilitaristische Ethik, die naturrechtliche Ethik und die Situationsethik. In einem dritten Teil werden die wichtigsten Entwürfe einer theozentrischen Ethik entfaltet: die geschichtstheologische Begründung der Ethik, die schöpfungstheologische Begründung der Ethik und die eschatologische Begründung der Ethik. Hierdurch wird die Grundlage gelegt für die Entfaltung der allgemeinen Ethik in Band II (in zwei Teilbänden: II/1: Das gute Handeln: Religionsethik und Humanethik; II/2: Das gute Handeln: Sexualethik, Wirtschaftsethik, Umweltethik und Kulturethik) sowie der spezifisch christlichen Ethik in Band III.
