La major part dels recorreguts per realitzar en BTT que et proposem transcorren per les zones muntanyoses del Berguedà més conegudes, però alhora passen pels seus racons més feréstecs, solitaris i salvatges, ja que ens endinsarem en la profunditat de les seves valls, la frondositat dels seus boscos, la frescor de les seves aigües, així com en una multitud de talaies, cims i colls, des dels quals podrem contemplar la fauna d'aquests indrets, així com també una vista panoràmica increïble. També hem d'esmentar que hi ha etapes que, tot i no transcórrer per indrets tan coneguts i populars i que no gaudeixen d'una alçada tan considerable i tampoc d'una situació geogràfica tan privilegiada, no per això deixen de ser mereixedores de tenir un espai en aquest recull. Aquestes etapes també tenen els seus racons de gran bellesa amagats, que ens estan esperant als qui els anem a descobrir. S'ha procurat de proposar itineraris que estiguin emmarcats en gran part o, si més no, transcorrin una mica per cadascun dels diversos pobles de la zona del Berguedà.

Selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Title Fire in the Plaça is the first full-length study in English of the Patum, a Corpus Christi fire festival unique to Berga, Catalonia, Spain, celebrated annually since the seventeenth century. Participants in the festival are transformed through drink, sleep deprivation, crowding, constant motion, and the smoke and sparks of close-range firecrackers into passionate members of a precarious body politic. Combining richly layered symbolism with intense bodily expression, the Patum has long served as a grassroots equivalent of grand social theory; it moves from a representation of social divisions to a forcible communion among them. The Patum's dancing effigies—giants, dwarves, Turks and Christian knights, devils and angels, a crowned eagle, and two flaming mule-dragons—have provided local allegories for a long series of political conflicts, but the festival obscures its own messages in smoke and motion to enable a temporary merging of opposites. Activists in the 1970s transition to democracy in Spain took the Patum as a model of how old adversaries might collaborate: it helped to shape the mix of assertiveness in performance and compromise in practice that is typical of contemporary Catalan nationalism. The Patum became a focus of resistance to the Franco regime and drew visitors from all over Catalonia, serving as a rehearsal for the mass protests in Barcelona. Later, it provided the newly autonomous region with a vehicle for integrating immigrants and a vocabulary of belonging, culminating in the Patum-derived devils of the closing ceremonies of the 1992 Olympic games. Today, as mines and factories have closed in Berga, the Patum serves as an arena in which provincial Catalans model their relationship to Barcelona, Europe, and the world, and reflects their ambivalence about the choices open to them. Seeking a third way between tourism and terrorism, provincial towns like Berga show us the future of all local communities under globalization. In collective performances such as the Patum, tensions between cultural and political representation are made visible, and the gap between aspiration and possibility is both bridged and acknowledged. In this exceptionally rich ethnographic study, Dorothy Noyes explores the predicament of provincial communities striving to overcome internal conflict and participate in a wider world.

Els vint-i-set itineraris d'aquesta guia són una selecció molt representativa de les excursions que es poden fer en els diversos àmbits de muntanya de l'alt Berguedà, siguin cims o no. Són, en general, excursions força exigents, de durada llarga o mitjana i de desnivell tirant a fort, que demanen preparació física i coneixement de la muntanya. Han estat pensades en forma de circuit, amb el mateix punt de sortida i d'arribada, i de manera que l'aproximació sigui sempre factible amb cotxe normal. Entre els cims visitats hi ha els de més anomenada del Berguedà i uns altres de força oblidats. Els primers, situats bé a la línia de la carena pirinenca —de Pedra Picada al Comabona—, bé a ponent del Llobregat —del Pedraforca als rasos de Peguera i també la serra del Verd—, són els més alts i a l'hivern, o durant més temps, estan coberts de neu. Respecte als cims que considerem força oblidats de l'excursionisme, destaquem els que flanquegen el congost del riu. Un altre grup d'itineraris, en canvi, no té per objecte fer cim, sinó alguna vall recòndita, un engorjat o anar d'un poble a un altre seguint vells camins. Justament una altra aportació destacable de la guia és la divulgació de camins antics igualment oblidats, com el de Fígols pel Querot Negre i els d'anar de Castellar del Riu a la vall de Catllarí.

This book provides an overview of the progress in Spanish tourism geography, particularly after the overlay of financial, pandemic and climate crisis, by the scrutiny of the different geographical areas and variables of analysis. What socio-spatial processes do leisure-rooted migrations involve? What are the labour conditions in the Spanish tourism industry? How does saving water boost tourism growth? This book aims to contribute to the knowledge of the cultural and linguistic relations between Italy and the Crown of Aragon in the 15th century. In particular, it studies some relevant aspects of the chivalric romance entitled Curial e Guelfa, written in Italy around 1443-1448 in Catalan, but mainly Italian in spirit, sources and onomastics. It is probably the very first work of a genre known as “humanistic chivalry”, the epitome of which will be Ariosto’s Orlando furioso. The literary context of Milan and Naples (The Three Crowns, Troubadour Lyrics, Humanism) is analyzed in the first part of the volume. It is this context that made possible the gestation of the Curial, an extraordinary anonymous romance, which was most likely written by the knight Enyego d’Àvalos (Inico d’Avalos), born in Toledo but raised in Valencia. The second part of the volume is devoted to the study of some lexical, stylistic and syntactic aspects of the Curial, which show the author's excellent knowledge of Catalan and the constant influence of Italian in the romance. Questo libro si propone di contribuire alla conoscenza delle relazioni culturali tra l'Italia e la Corona d’Aragona nel XV secolo. In particolare, studia il romanzo dal titolo Curial e Güelfa, scritto in Italia intorno al 1443-1448, dotato di italianità, fonti e onomastica, ma scritto in catalano. È probabilmente la primissima opera di un genere noto come “cavalleria umanistica| , la cui epitome sarebbe l’Orlando Furioso dell’Ariosto. Questo volume analizza il contesto letterario di Milano e Napoli che ha reso possibile questo straordinario romanzo anonimo, di cui conosciamo ormai con quasi assoluta certezza che il suo autore era Enyego o Inico d'Avalos. I contributi in questo volume approfondiscono alcuni degli aspetti lessicali, stilistici e sintattici di Curial e Güelfa, e mettono in evidenza l'eccellente conoscenza del catalano da parte del suo autore, nonché la presenza onnipresente della lingua italiana. El libro pretende contribuir al conocimiento de las relaciones culturales entre Italia y la Corona de Aragón en el siglo XV. En concreto se ocupa de la novela Curial e Güelfa , gestada en Italia hacia 1443-1448, de espíritu, fuentes y onomástica principalmente italianos, pero redactada en lengua catalana. Es probablemente la manifestación más primeriza del género literario conocido como “caballería humanística”, que tendrá su punto culminante con el Orlando furioso, d’Ariosto.
