Este libro se propone, a fin de cuentas, poner en perspectiva lo que significó el largo duelo entre Betancourt y Trujillo, uno de cuyos desenlaces fue aquel brutal atentado al cual el presidente venezolano, por su manera de ser y por su moral política, no pretendió convertir jamás episodio glorioso ni consagrarlo en el santoral republicano.
