El futuro del delta del Ebro, una de las zonas húmedas más importantes de Europa, se encuentra en una importante encrucijada. Después de varias décadas de gestión irracional del agua y del territorio, tanto en la cuenca como en el propio delta, la degradación ecológica amenaza con llegar a un punto de difícil retorno. La intensa intervención humana en el propio delta y en la cuenca fluvial está provocando una alteración considerable tanto del medio físico como del biológico, debido básicamente a la modificación de los flujos de agua, nutrientes y sedimentos, así como a la destrucción y degradación de los hábitats naturales y a la contaminación de las aguas. Esta degradación física y biológica tiene también consecuencias negativas en el ámbito socioeconómico. El presente libro no se limita a analizar las amenazas externas e internas que están conduciendo al delta del Ebro a un escenario de insostenibilidad, sino que plantea además una serie de ideas, directrices y propuestas para pasar del delta amenazado al delta sostenible.
