Este libro analiza las novelas de Juan José Saer como “variaciones imaginativas de la experiencia subjetiva del tiempo” y de la relación del sujeto con el tiempo histórico. Las novelas de Saer aluden a contextos muy reconocibles de la historia argentina (la conquista española, la guerras independentistas, la fundación del Estado-Nación, los años de proscripción del peronismo, las dictaduras, el Terrorismo de Estado), pero esas referencias ingresan a un espacio ficcional donde lo que rige no sería el tiempo histórico, cronológico, lineal, sino una visión subjetiva del tiempo que se manifiestaría mediante el despliegue estático de horizontes de pasado o de futuro a partir del “ahora” del presente, concebido en todo su espesor. A través de los sucesivos análisis de la narrativa saeriana la autora demuestra que el tratamiento de la temporalidad novelesca constituye la principal innovación formal en la obra de Saer, y que ello redunda también en su originalidad para tratar la Historia, como rasgo que lo distingue en la tradición de la novela argentina.

La gran importancia que ha llegado a tener la obra de Bolaño en el ámbito latinoamericano y en el internacional insta al análisis de sus novelas y al intento de hallar un atributo que permita caracterizarlas; ése ha sido el afán de Myrna Solotorevsky en el presente libro. Ella ha escogido con esa finalidad el concepto “espesor escritural”, que consiste en una proliferación de significados, un exceso de referentes, que irradian en diferentes niveles de los textos y crean, muchas veces, un efecto de impenetrabilidad. Solotorevsky advierte una suerte de gradación ascendente en la obra de Bolaño, la que alcanza su culminación en sus dos meganovelas: Los detectives salvajes y 2666, en las que los rasgos del código bolañesco se intensifican. Dado el logro de la obra de Bolaño, el despliegue analítico de su escritura se constituye en un homenaje al autor.

The Nature of Hate and the Hatred of Nature in Hispanic Literatures retraces the “nature of hatred” and the “hatred of nature” from the earliest traditions of Western literature including Biblical texts, Medieval Spanish literature, early Spanish Renaissance texts, to nineteenth- and twentieth-century Iberian and Latin American literatures. The nature of hate is neither hate in its weakened form, as in disliking or loving less, nor hate in its righteous form, as in “I hate hatred,” rather hate in its primal form as told and conveyed in so many culturally influential Bible stories that are at the root of hatred as it manifests itself today. The hatred of nature is not only contempt for the natural world, but also the idea of nature hating in return, thus inspiring even more hatred of nature. While some chapters, such as the one dedicated to La Celestina, focus more on the nature of hate and the hatred of love, they do address the hatred of nature, as when Celestina conjures Pluto, who happens to be closer to nature than to Satan. Other chapters, such as the ones dedicated to the Latin American novels set in the jungle, focus more on the hatred of nature but ultimately turn to the nature of hatred by analyzing hatred and the descent into madness. In the final chapters Beatriz Rivera-Barnes simultaneously addresses the nature of hatred and the hatred of nature as well as the ecophilia/ecophobia debate in twentieth-century Latin American literatures and considers, if not an assimilation of hate, possibly the cannibalizing of hate.

Su propuesta es arriesgada, pero urgirla ahora que la hegemonía en tomo a una forma de saber hacer y ser se ha empoderado cómo la única forma de hacer y ser para el sujeto. va Husserl, lielderaer Y la Escuela de Frankfurt, en su extensión, fueron conspicuos en su momento, no siendo los únicos en lo que hoy, en contexto, tiempo y espacio, quiere proponernos con sus investigaciones.
