Es el Santo Patrono de la Baslica de Venecia, donde es venerado por la Iglesia Catlica, as como en diversas Iglesias de Latinoamrica, Europa y Africa; extendiendo su veneracin a las Iglesias Copta y Ortodoxa. Eduardo Agatn Hernndez ha recurrido a diferente informacin histrica del Cristianismo, referente a este Santo Patrono del pueblo donde naci en 1943, en la Costa de chica del Estado de Guerrero en Mxico, donde es venerado desde 1840 que cambi su nombre original por el de este Evangelista, pues segn la mitologa del pueblo decidi quedarse a vivir con sus habitantes, segn le contaron sus abuelos, padres y hermanos, originarios tambin de este pueblo.
