Entre ellos se destaca el intrigante mayordomo de la estancia donde trabaja el protagonista, cuya presencia añade una capa de misterio a la narrativa, así como luego aparece el paramilitar, una oscura muestra de nuestro pasado. El autor, en un cameo circunstancial, nos sumerge en un mundo donde la imaginación hace de las suyas, creando una trama intrigante y llena de suspenso y color. Es importante destacar que, si bien la novela presenta elementos ficticios, sus actores son caricaturas exageradas de personas reales, a los cuales algún testigo privilegiado podría reconocer, en tanto la atmósfera y los escenarios evocan con precisión algunos veranos en la costa argentina. El gaucho Medina es una obra que cautiva desde la primera página e introduce al lector en un universo donde la realidad y la ficción se entrelazan, todo ello dedicado al "hincha de Ginnasia", a quien le debemos este atrayente personaje.

Enrique Rapela (1911-1978) was a true pioneer. He knew the gauchos well and admired them for their skills, their customs, their loyalty. He was an autodidact who represented with words and drawings that world, as facinating as unknown to many. He was one of the creators of the gaucho cartoon, with memorable characters such as Cirilo el Audaz, Cirilo el Argentino, El Huinca and Fabián Leyes. He was an artistic advisor to gaucho films, and he illustrated several editions of Martín Fierro, among other titles. The texts of The Gaucho's Heritage originally appeared in three fascicles and have been organized into chapters and thematic parts, preserving their style and care for details. Bilingual Legacies examines fatherhood in the work of four canonical Spanish authors born in Barcelona and raised during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. Drawing on the autobiographical texts of Juan Goytisolo, Carlos Barral, Terenci Moix, and Clara Janés, the book explores how these authors understood gender roles and paternal figures as well as how they positioned themselves in relation to Spanish and Catalan literary traditions. Anna Casas Aguilar contends that through their presentation of father figures, these authors subvert static ideas surrounding fatherhood. She argues that this diversity was crucial in opening the door to revised gender models in Spain during the democratic period. Moving beyond the shadow of the dictator, Casas Aguilar shows how these writers distinguished between the patriarchal "father of the nation" and their own paternal figures. In doing so, Bilingual Legacies sheds light on the complexity of Spanish conceptions of gender, language, and family and illustrates how notions of masculinity, authorship, and canon are interrelated.

OrIoff shows that Cortázar did not become a political writer as a result of the Cuban Revolution, as is often claimed, but rather that the representation of the political was present in Cortázar's very first writings. The book analyses the evolution of the representation of distinct political elements throughout Cortázar's writings, mainly with reference to the novels and the so-called collage books, which have so far received only limited critical attention. The author also alludes to some short stories and refers to many of Cortázar's non-literary texts. Through this chosen corpus, the book follows a thematic thread, showing that politics was present in Cortázar's fiction from his very first writings, and not - as he himself tended to claim - only following his conversion to socialism. The study aims to show that contrary to what many critics have argued, this political conversion did not divide the writer into an irreconcilable before and after - the apolitical versus the political - but rather it simply shifted the emphasis of the representation of the political that already existed in Cortázar's writings. Carolina Orloff is an independent scholar working on research projects in the UK and in Argentina.
