Estudi filològic del lèxic dels Registres de danys de la Barracelleria a l’Alguer del període 1683-1874. De la mà de l’edició dels Registres de danys, escrits íntegrament en català i conservats a l’Arxiu Històric Municipal de l’Alguer, el llibre analitza el lèxic de l’agricultura i la ramaderia i dóna compte de les inteferències lèxiques dels parlars sards en l’alguerès entre els segles XVII i XVIII, a partir de la selecció de quatre camps lexicosemàntics: noms del bestiar, noms de la terra, noms de la producció i la indústria agrícoles (que inclou noms dels cereals i el farratge, noms de la fruita, noms de les hortalisses i els llegums, noms dels arbres fruiters, el cep i les plantes d’horta, i noms de la indústria i l’aprofitament agrícoles), i noms de les eines. Conté una anàlisi interpretativa de la substitució lèxica: d’una banda, per camps semàntics, amb una anàlisi contrastiva, una anàlisi cronològica i una interpretació ecosociolingüística dels canvis lèxics; i, d’una altra banda, una interpretació de conjunt, amb taules de freqüències, sobre el grau d’interferència exògena i d’herència catalana, sobre la procedència exògena dels manlleus i calcs semàntics (sobretot dels parlars sards), amb percentatges, i sobre la cronologia d’aquesta interferència lèxica. Inclou uns apèndixs en format CD-ROM amb l’edició dels textos, inèdits.

El lèxic és el motor de la llengua, aquella part de la maquinària lingüística que mou el conjunt. En moviment constant, el lèxic va canviant, deixant de banda paraules que en moments anteriors havien estat necessàries i freqüents, i incorporant-ne d’altres. No totes les paraules noves que arriben a la llengua s’estabilitzaran en l’ús, això dependrà dels parlants i de les institucions, però en qualsevol cas seran, durant un temps, neologismes. En la primera part d’aquest volum, s’hi presenten les innovacions lèxiques del català estudiades segons el tipus de formació i s’hi fan reflexions sobre aspectes tan diversos com el grau d’estabilització i de novetat, les característiques pragmàtiques i semàntiques o el nivell d’autonomia d’aquestes unitats respecte d’altres llengües. En la segona part, s’hi fa constar un recull de prop de set-centes unitats, exemplificades amb contextos que provenen principalment dels diaris Ara, La Vanguardia, El Periódico de Catalunya i l’Avui.

L’any 2004 es va publicar el primer volum d’Obres gramaticals d’Antoni Febrer i Cardona, a cura de Jordi Ginebra. En aquell volum s’editava per primera vegada l’obra Principis generals de la llengua menorquina (1804), juntament amb un parell de textos més, de caràcter gramatical: les Observacions sobre la llengua menorquina per mitjà del pròleg del Pronòstic de l’any 1811, i les Observacions del doctor Parpal sobre l’ortografia menorquina (s/d). En la presentació d’aquell volum s’anunciava ja la preparació d’un segon volum d’obres gramaticals —aquest que teniu ara entre les mans— que aplegaria la resta de les produccions conegudes de Febrer en l’àmbit de la reflexió gramatical: els Principis generals i particulars de la llengua menorquina (1821), la Resposta a alguns dubtes sobre els principis generals i particulars establerts en la gramàtica menorquina (1821) i les Notes sobre la pronúncia i l’ortografia menorquina (1824), totes encara inèdites. Com es veurà, aquest darrer bloc d’escrits, concentrats en uns pocs anys de la maduresa del seu autor, gira tot ell a l’entorn dels Principis generals i particulars i de la seva recepció. És per això que voldrem centrar el present estudi, que precedeix l’edició dels materials esmentats, en la caracterització de la segona gramàtica de Febrer i Cardona, i en la vinculació d’aquesta obra amb la seva primera gramàtica, quasi vint anys anterior

At the beginning of the thirteenth century Byzantium was still one of the most influential states in the eastern Mediterranean, possessing two-thirds of the Balkans and almost half of Asia Minor. After the capture of Constantinople in 1204 during the Fourth Crusade, the most prominent and successful of the Greek rump states was the Empire of Nicaea, which managed to re-capture the city in 1261 and restore Byzantium. The Nicaean Empire, like Byzantium of the Komnenoi and Angeloi of the twelfth century, went on to gain dominant influence over the Seljukid Sultanate of Rum in the 1250s. However, the decline of the Seljuk power, the continuing migration of Turks from the east, and what effectively amounted to a lack of Mongol interest in western Anatolia, allowed the creation of powerful Turkish nomadic confederations in the frontier regions facing Byzantium. By 1304, the nomadic Turks had broken Byzantium's eastern defences; the Empire lost its Asian territories forever, and Constantinople became the most eastern outpost of Byzantium. At the beginning of the fourteenth century the Empire was a tiny, second-ranking Balkan state, whose lands were often disputed between the Bulgarians, the Serbs, and the Franks. Using Greek, Arabic, Persian, and Ottoman sources, Byzantium and the Turks in the Thirteenth Century presents a new interpretation of the Nicaean Empire and highlights the evidence for its wealth and power. It explains the importance of the relations between the Byzantines and the Seljuks and the Mongols, revealing how the Byzantines adapted to the new and complex situation that emerged in the second half of the thirteenth century. Finally, it turns to the Empire's Anatolian frontiers and the emergence of the Turkish confederations, the biggest challenge that the Byzantines faced in the thirteenth century.
