War Diplomacy And Peacemaking In Medieval Iberia written by Kim Bergqvist and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-08 with History categories.

This volume offers insights into the nature of warfare, diplomacy and peacemaking on the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages, and the influences and entanglements resulting from these processes. The essays collected here emphasize both violent conflict and the brokering of allegiances and settlements, either within polities and common endeavours or between rival entities (such as the taifas of Seville and Badajoz in the fractious eleventh century). The volume begins with an account of Muslim warlords who sought service under Christian rulers in the tenth century and their historiographical fates, and embraces the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, from its western coast, in an analysis of the tightrope walked by the Galician monastery of Oia in maintaining its Portuguese domains at times of bitter conflict between Castile and its neighbour, to its eastern coast, as Catalan and Aragonese merchants coped with pirates and state-sponsored confiscation in the fifteenth century.

The Nasrid Kingdom of Granada (1232-1492) was the last Islamic state in al-Andalus. It has long been considered a historical afterthought, even an anomaly, but this impression must be rectified: here we place the kingdom in a new context, within the processes of change that were taking place across all Western Islamic societies in the late Middle Ages. Despite being the last Islamic entity in the Iberian Peninsula, Granada was neither isolated nor exclusively associated with the nearest Islamic lands. The special relationship between Nasrid territory and the surrounding Christian states accelerated historical processes of change. This volume edited by Adela Fábregas examines the Nasrid kingdom through its politics, society, economics, and culture. Politique Et Soci T En Sicile Xiie Xve Si Cles written by Henri Bresc and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990 with History categories.

In the 12th century, under its Norman rulers, Sicily stood as one of the most flourishing regions of the Mediterranean; by the late 15th century it had sunk into the state of semi-colonial depression and dependence that has chartacterized so much of its modern history. It is this transformation - a process of socio-economic change that went hand in hand with political turmoil - that forms the subject of this volume. Henri Bresc approaches this both from the viewpoint of particular topics, such as the notarial class or the tiny island of Pantelleria, and that of larger themes. One of these is the composition of Sicily's population. These articles trace the deteriorating status of the Arabs and Greeks on the island, the demographic circumstances that brought in new immigrants (notably Albanians, but also corsairs), and the emergence of a society now dominated by its Latin and Italian components. Other articles contrast the intensive suburban agriculture with the empty spaces of the large estates, and throw light on the development of a new landowning structure, based on these estates which were given over to cereals, grown for export in order to meet the financial demands of the long conflict with the Angevins.
