Durante décadas los relatos historiográficos sobrelos hechos que condujeron a la secesióndel reino de Chile de la Monarquía Hispánica, en lo que la historia oficial llamó «la Patria Vieja»,repitieron una única interpretación posible, la liberal,que servía para arraigar el mito fundacional dela Independencia y de la República. Sin embargo, es posible reconstruir otro relato, que cuenta con abundante documentación y es más antiguo que el liberal, sin haber merecido mayor atención por partede la historia republicana. Se trata de un relato que nos legaron los chilenos fieles a la causa del rey, que se sentían profundamente españoles y que empeñaron sus vidas y haciendas para defender la justicia de su causa. Son quienes no aceptaron la legitimidad de lo que decidió la asamblea de notables reunida en el edificio del Real Consulado el 18 deseptiembre de 1810 y que respaldaron la constitución histórica de la Monarquía.Eduardo Andrades, doctor en Derecho, tras habercursado tres másteres (en Historia de las Instituciones Europeas, Humanidades y Derecho Constitucional) y obtenido un Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (en Historia del Derecho), es catedráticode Historia del Derecho en la Universidad del Desarrollo,de Concepción (Chile). Miembro correspondientedel Consejo de Estudios Hispánicos Felipe II (Madrid), ha colaborado en su revista Fuego y Raya (Córdoba de Tucumán), además de otras publicaciones chilenas como Derecho Público Iberoamericano (Santiago) y Revista de Estudios Histórico-Jurídicos (Valparaíso).
