This edited collection addresses the problem of how the creation of novel spaces of governance relates to imaginaries of connectivity in time. While connectivity seems almost ubiquitous today, it has been imagined and practiced in various ways and to varying political effects in different historical and geographical contexts. Often the conception of new connectivities also gives birth to new spaces of governance. The political denomination of spaces – whether maritime, continental, social, or virtual – reflects the situatedness of power. Yet, such crafting of new spaces also expresses particular imaginaries and technologies of connectivity that make governance possible. Whereas the study of international relations has traditionally focused on the role of agency and structure in power relations, the affects, beliefs, attitudes, and practices that intervene in how groups of people connect in given times have not attracted much scholarly attention Overall, the detailed and original case studies examined in the book range from the 16th century, to the 19th century, to the present, and from Spain, to the Maritime Alps, to Germany, to the Mediterranean, to China, to East Asia. The historical and geographical variety of the cases serves to highlight the diversity of the meaning and function of connectivity in the constitution of novel spaces of governance.

Aquesta guia presenta vint-i-cinc circuits d'alta muntanya, escollits per conèixer el Pirineu oriental català, assequibles en un sol dia per a un gran nombre d'excursionistes. Al Pirineu oriental català el cim més elevat és el del Carlit, que ateny l'altitud gens menyspreable de 2.921 m. Tres relleus més sobrepassen els 2.900 m —tossa Plana de Lles, Puigpedrós i Puigmal— i una munió es troba entre els 2.800 m i els 2.400 m, cota mínima que s'atribueix, en les nostres latituds, a la vertadera alta muntanya. El sector que abasta aquesta guia, seguint la base dels 2.400 m com a mínim, va del massís del Canigó a Andorra i l'Alt Urgell en funció del curs dels rius Segre, Gran Valira i Valira d'Encamp o d'Orient fins al port d'Envalira. Tanmateix, no surt de l'àmbit dels Països Catalans —Catalunya Nord, Catalunya estricta i principat d'Andorra—. Cada circuit consta d'una presentació, una fitxa tècnica i una descripció on s'indiquen la ubicació, l'accés, el desnivell acumulat, l'altitud màxima assolida —sempre per damunt dels 2.400 m—, el temps o horari total aproximat, uns consells i els llocs —refugis, cabanes, cases de pagès, hotels, etc.— on allotjar-nos. Les dificultats dels vint-i-cinc itineraris circulars ressenyats no sobrepassen el III grau de l'escala de l'UIAA i disposen de diversos punts per abandonar-los si sorprèn el mal temps o el cansament. Són una manera diferent de recórrer aquest meravellós Pirineu oriental, tant axial com Prepirineu; una varietat més de les moltes que hi podem dur a terme.
