The commitment of Carlos Sánchez Berzaín with democracy, law and institutionalism in Latin America have made him the most effective and devastating hammer against this kind of regimes that he encompasses under the category of "dictatorships of the 21st century".In this book you will find articles and essays in which he dissects and denounces the abuses of modern dictators: the evolution of the exercise of tyranny that has changed military uniforms for sportswear; the violent and armed pronouncement by populism, and deception to voters, all with the aim of perpetuating themselves in power at the expense of anything, including the commission of crimes typical of the Sicilian mafia. The killing of the separation of powers, the decapitation of Montesquieu, is now taking place --named Lula, Maduro, Morales, Ortega or Correa, always under the guidance of someone whose last name is Castro.I make public the wish that one day Sánchez Berzaín can return to his native Bolivia to take the place that a fighter for democracy deserves. Until that day arrives, let's enjoy your writings and reflections.-Manuel Aguilera, HispanoPost.com

Civil Economy written by Luigino Bruni and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business ethics categories.

This volume has a double purpose. First of all, it follows an Italian tradition of thought that began in the 15th and 16th centuries as Civic Humanism and continued up until the golden period of Italian Enlightenment as represented by the Schools of Milan and Naples. Its main contribution to the history of economic thought is its conception of the market as a place centered on the principle of reciprocity and civil virtues. This book explains why the civil approach to economics disappeared from cultural debates, scientific enquiries and the public arena at the end of the 18th century, only to surface again in more recent times. Secondly, the book draws attention to a new reading of the whole of economic reality. Indeed, the civil economy in one sense is mainly a cultural perspective from which it is possible to interpret the entire economic discourse. If a theory is considered as substantially a point of view on reality, then this cultural perspective can also set the basis for a diverse economic theory. Where does the key element of such diversity lie? It lies in the attempt to integrate within the economic system the three basic principles of any social order: the principle of exchange of equivalents, the principle of redistribution and the principle of reciprocity. Though this book draws on the history of economic ideas, it focuses on the present day from an ancient perspective in order to find convincing answers to the new questions arising in the era of globalization.

Militant Democracy written by András Sajó and has been published by Eleven International Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Civil rights categories.

This book is a collection of contributions by leading scholars on theoretical and contemporary problems of militant democracy. The term 'militant democracy' was first coined in 1937. In a militant democracy preventive measures are aimed, at least in practice, at restricting people who would openly contest and challenge democratic institutions and fundamental preconditions of democracy like secularism - even though such persons act within the existing limits of, and rely on the rights offered by, democracy. In the shadow of the current wars on terrorism, which can also involve rights restrictions, the overlapping though distinct problem of militant democracy seems to be lost, notwithstanding its importance for emerging and established democracies. This volume will be of particular significance outside the German-speaking world, since the bulk of the relevant literature on militant democracy is in the German language. The book is of interest to academics in the field of law, political studies and constitutionalism.

Dominant Elites In Latin America written by Liisa L. North and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-18 with Political Science categories.

This volume examines the ways in which the socio-economic elites of the region have transformed and expanded the material bases of their power from the inception of neo-liberal policies in the 1970s through to the so-called progressive ‘pink tide’ governments of the past two decades. The six case study chapters—on Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, El Salvador, and Guatemala—variously explore how state policies and even United Nations peace-keeping missions have enhanced elite control of land and agricultural exports, banks and insurance companies, wholesale and import commerce, industrial activities, and alliances with foreign capital. Chapters also pay attention to the ways in which violence has been deployed to maintain elite power, and how international forces feed into sustaining historic and contemporary configurations of power.

"This selection of essays and articles by Carlos Sanchez Berzain brings to mind the role of a sentinel -which in this days of internet of things- is either a person or a thing that keeps watch to prevent passage from hostile agents into own territory. Like all sentinels Carlos seeks order, security and stability in our hemisphere, but above all: freedom." Beatrice Rangel There are two Americas naturally confronted. Dictatorial one permanently assaults the democratic other. The first make up the so-called now "dictatorships of 21st century socialism (SSXXI)" that attack the democracies of the region and their stability. Carlos Sánchez Berzaín
