Classical Mechanics And Electrodynamics Second Edition written by Jon Magne Leinaas and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-10-08 with Science categories.
The book gives a general introduction to classical theoretical physics, in the fields of mechanics, relativity and electromagnetism. It is analytical in approach and detailed in the derivations of physical consequences from the fundamental principles in each of the fields. This second edition has a new part, namely Classical Field Theory. Highlighting a close connection between this part and earlier parts of the book, where particles, rather than fields are the center of attention. As a general introduction to classical theoretical physics, the book is different from most textbooks at this level, which focus either on classical mechanics or classical electrodynamics but not both. The book will in particular be useful as a textbook for physics courses with such a broader approach to classical physics. For a wider group of students, the book may be of interest for self study. The new inclusion on classical field theory, will give students greater understanding on previous parts of the book, such as examining the Lagrangian formulation of Maxwell's equations with Noether's theorem. This is central in the use of Lagrangian on fields, as also discussed. The text is illustrated with many figures, most of these in color. There are many useful examples and exercises which complement the derivations in the text.

Scattering And Diffraction In Physical Optics 2nd Edition written by Manuel Nieto Vesperinas and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-06-01 with Science categories.
This book presents a comprehensive tutorial on propagation, diffraction and scattering problems from the basic principles of physical optics. Beginning with the fundamental differential and integral equations for wavefields, the text presents an exhaustive discussion on the extinction theorem as a non-local boundary condition; this has been extensively employed for the rigorous solution of scattering and diffraction problems. There is also an in-depth presentation of the topic of scattering from rough surfaces, in particular the phenomenon of enhanced backscattering, as well as a detailed development of the angular spectrum representation of fields leading to questions on non-diffraction beams. Of key interest in near field optical microscopy and nanooptics, the S-matrix theory based on the angular spectrum for propagating components and the recently discovered properties of the S-matrix for evanescent components of wavefields are considered. In addition, the book deals with the healing effect of phase conjugation on waves, and focuses on some applications concerning the relationship with time reversal.Readers will also find discussions on image recovery from partial information data (phase problems and super-resolution problems), as well as a chapter on the fundamentals of near field optical microscopy techniques, including the hot topic of propagation in negative index media.

Electrodynamics Of Continua Ii written by A.Cemal Eringen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Science categories.
This is the second volume of a two-volume set presenting a unified approach to the electrodynamics of continua, based on the principles of contemporary continuum of physics. The first volume was devoted mainly to the development of the theory and applications to deformable solid media. This volume extends the developments of the first volume to richer and newer grounds. It contains discussions on fluid media, magnetohydrodynamics, eletrohydrodynamics and media with more complicated structures. With the discussion, in the last two chapters, of memory-dependent materials and non-local E-M theory, the authors account for the nonlocal effects arising from motions and fields of material points at past times and at spatially distant points. This discussion is included here to stimulate further research in these important fields, which are presently in development stages. The second volume is self-contained and can be studied without the help of volume I. A section summarizing the constitutive equations and the underlying physical ideas, which were presented in more detail in the first volume, is included. This volume may be used as a basis for several graduate courses in engineering schools, applied mathematics and physics departments. It also contains fresh ideas and will stimulate further research in the directions the authors outline.

Interactions Of Photons And Neutrons With Matter 2nd Edition written by Michael Kotlarchyk and has been published by World Scientific Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-03-09 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This invaluable book is based on lecture notes developed for a one-semester graduate course entitled “Interaction of Radiation with Matter”, taught in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The main objective of the course is to teach enough quantum and classical radiation theory to allow students in engineering and the applied sciences to understand and have access to the vast literature on applications of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in materials research.Besides presenting the fundamental physics of radiation interactions, the book devotes individual chapters to some of the important modern-day experimental tools, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, photon correlation spectroscopy, and the various types of neutron, x-ray, and light-scattering techniques. End-of-chapter problems have been added for the new edition, making the book more appropriate as a course textbook.

Basics Of Statistical Physics Third Edition written by Harald J W Muller-kirsten and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-03-16 with Science categories.
Statistics links microscopic and macroscopic phenomena, and requires for this reason a large number of microscopic elements like atoms. The results are values of maximum probability or of averaging. This introduction to statistical physics concentrates on the basic principles and attempts to explain these in simple terms, supplemented by numerous examples. These basic principles include the difference between classical and quantum statistics, a priori probabilities as related to degeneracies, the vital aspect of indistinguishability as compared with distinguishability in classical physics, the differences between conserved and non-conserved elements, the different ways of counting arrangements in the three statistics (Maxwell-Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac, Bose-Einstein), the difference between maximization of the number of arrangements of elements, and averaging in the Darwin-Fowler method. Significant applications to solids, radiation and electrons in metals are treated in separate chapters, as well as Bose-Einstein condensation. In this latest edition, apart from a general revision, the topic of thermal radiation has been expanded with a new section on black bodies and an additional chapter on black holes. Other additions are more examples with applications of statistical mechanics in solid state physics and superconductivity. Throughout the presentation, the introduction carries almost all details for calculations.
