Electrical Engineering Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media A volume in the IEEE/OUP Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory Donald G. Dudley, Series Editor This IEEE Classic Reissue presents a unified introduction to the fundamental theories and applications of wave propagation and scattering in random media. Now for the first time, the two volumes of Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media previously published by Academic Press in 1978 are combined into one comprehensive volume. This book presents a clear picture of how waves interact with the atmosphere, terrain, ocean, turbulence, aerosols, rain, snow, biological tissues, composite material, and other media. The theories presented will enable you to solve a variety of problems relating to clutter, interference, imaging, object detection, and communication theory for various media. This book is expressly designed for engineers and scientists who have an interest in optical, microwave, or acoustic wave propagation and scattering. Topics covered include: Wave characteristics in aerosols and hydrometeors Optical and acoustic scattering in sea water Scattering from biological materials Pulse scattering and beam wave propagation in such media Optical diffusion in tissues and blood Transport and radiative transfer theory Kubelka—Munk flux theory and plane-parallel problem Multiple scattering theory Wave fluctuations in turbulence Strong fluctuation theory Rough surface scattering Remote sensing and inversion techniques Imaging through various media About the IEEE/OUP Series on Electromagnetic Wave Theory Formerly the IEEE Press Series on Electromagnetic Waves, this joint series between IEEE Press and Oxford University Press offers outstanding coverage of the field with new titles as well as reprintings and revisions of recognized classics that maintain long-term archival significance in electromagnetic waves and applications. Designed specifically for graduate students, practicing engineers, and researchers, this series provides affordable volumes that explore electromagnetic waves and applications beyond the undergraduate level. See page il of the front matter for a listing of books in this series.

Electromagnetic Scattering Modelling For Quantitative Remote Sensing written by Ya-Qiu Jin and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Advances during the last two decades in radio electronics, space science and computers have turned remote sensing technology into one of the most effective tools for global exploration and environmental monitoring. This book is a comprehensive account of the theoretical models and techniques required for a full interpretation of the rich images and data that remote sensing can provide. Starting with the basics of vector radiative transfer and scattering theory, the book goes on to develop quantitative methods involving most comprehensive models of discrete scatters, continuous random media and randomly rough surfaces. References are constantly made to real-world parameters and models involved in the probing of different types of geographical terrain. The book is intended as an introductory graduate text and a research reference. It assumes a reasonable foundation in electromagnetism and common techniques in mathematical physics.

Light Scattering And Nanoscale Surface Roughness written by Alexei A. Maradudin and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-05-10 with Science categories.

All real surfaces, both those occurring naturally, and those fabricated artificially and with great care, are rough to some degree. It is therefore of interest, and often of importance, to know the extent to which this roughness affects physical p- cesses occurring at a surface. A particularly interesting class of physical processes occurring at a rough surface is the scattering of electromagnetic waves from it, or their transmission through it. In this case the degree of the surface roughness is referred to the wavelength of the waves incident on it. The study of the scattering of electromagnetic waves from rough surfaces has been actively carried out for more than a century now, since Rayleigh's inves- gations of the scattering of a monochromatic plane wave incident normally on a 1 sinusoidal interface between two different media. The first theoretical treatment of the scattering of an electromagnetic wave from a randomly rough surface was due to Mandel'shtam/ in the context of the scattering of light from a liquid s- face. In these pioneering studies the angular dependence of the intensity of the scattered field was calculated by perturbation theory as an expansion in powers of the surface profile function though the first nonzero term, a single scattering approximation.

Wave Propagation and Scattering in Random Media, Volume 2, presents the fundamental formulations of wave propagation and scattering in random media in a unified and systematic manner. The topics covered in this book may be grouped into three categories: waves in random scatterers, waves in random continua, and rough surface scattering. Random scatterers are random distributions of many particles. Examples are rain, fog, smog, hail, ocean particles, red blood cells, polymers, and other particles in a state of Brownian motion. Random continua are the media whose characteristics vary randomly an ...

This book treats various generalizations of the classical O'Doherty-Anstey formula in order to describe stratigraphic filtering effects. These are the effects that can be observed when elastic and electromagnetic waves propagate through multilayered structures. Our aim was to treat this topic in a comprehensive manner and present compact results in a didactically simple way, emphasizing the physics of the wave-propagation phenomena. We do not claim mathematical rigidity in all our derivations, however, we are pleased to have obtained quite simple descriptions of scattering, transmission and reflection of wavefields in acoustic, elastic, and poroelastic media which can be useful for various seismological and non-seismological applications.
