This book is a first-year graduate text on electromagnetic fields and waves. It is the translated and revised edition of the Chinese version with the same title published by the Publishing House of Electronic Industry (PHEI) of China in 1994. The text is based on the graduate course lectures on "Advanced Elec trodynamics" given by the authors at Tsinghua University. More than 300 students from the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Depart ment of Applied Physics have taken this course during the last decade. Their particular fields are microwave and millimeterwave theory and technology, physical electronics, optoelectronics and engineering physics. As the title of the book shows, the texts and examples in the book concentrate mainly on electromagnetic theory related to microwaves and optoelectronics, or light wave technology. However, the book can also be used as an intermediate-level text or reference book on electromagnetic fields and waves for students and scientists engaged in research in neighboring fields.

Our objective was primarily to consider in a separate treatise from the general point of view a theory of as many electrodynamic phenomena in a magnetic field as possible. The choice of material was determined by both the ab sence of such a book and the scientific interests of the authors. From the very beginning, however, we felt it necessary to include the fundamentals of electrodynamics that are required for the thorough analysis of particular processes. We believe that it is convenient for a reader to find in the same book a consistent review of some special fields in physics and a complete set of theoretical instruments that are necessary for the clear understanding of more advanced parts of the book. There exists a number of excellent textbooks and monographs describing the problems of classical electrodynamics in general and its applications to continuous media. We have to acknowledge, for example, the following funda mental books: Electrodynamics by A. Sommerfeld [1], The Classical Theory of Fields by L.D. Landau and E.M. Lifshitz [2], Electromagnetic Theory by J.A. Stratton [3], and Electrodynamics of Continuous Media by L.D. Lan dau and E.M. Lifshitz [4]. This list is certainly not exhaustive. However, to our knowledge, a book specifically covering the theory of electrodynamic phenomena in a magnetic field has not yet been written.

Theory Of Electrostatic Waves In Hyperbolic Metamaterials written by Afshin Moradi and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-12-13 with Science categories.
This book covers electrostatic properties of hyperbolic metamaterials (HMMs), a fascinating class of metamaterials which combine dielectric and metal components. Due to the hyperbolic topology of the isofrequency surface in HMMs, the so-called resonance cone direction exists, and as a result, propagation of quasi-electrostatic waves, or more commonly, electrostatic waves close to the resonance cone with large wave vectors, is possible. However, the investigation of electrostatic wave properties in HMMs is largely overlooked in most works on the subject, and the purpose of this monograph is to fill this gap. This book gives a thorough theoretical treatment of propagation, reflection, and refraction of electrostatic waves in HMMs of various dimensions and geometries. It will be of interest to students and researchers who work on electrical and optical properties of metamaterials.

Conformal components are used nowadays at higher rate than ever before. They can be found in curved mobile phones, communication, navigation, and imaging systems in land, water, air, and space vehicles. The integration of those components within the external structure became of significant importance for aerodynamic, electromagnetic, aesthetic, or physical reasons. As a result, many mathematical models were previously developed to analyze and optimize such conformed devices. In this thesis, we contributed to this field by developing various models for full wave analysis of spheroidal components. As a starting point, mathematical formulas for conforming antennas on oblate and prolate spheroids were obtained. Those conformation methods were validated by conforming many antennas on spheroidal surfaces. They were then used to formulate Method of Moments equations with spheroidally curved current functions for analyzing wire antennas of random shape conformed to spheroids in the frequency domain. The complete model was applied to a conformal Archimedean spiral antenna on an oblate spheroid and showed that the conformed spiral has similar current distribution as its planar counterpart but produces an unsymmetrical radiation pattern. The obtained model was then extended to spheroidal multi-layer structures by integrating the spheroidal dyadic Green’s Function within its mathematical derivation. However, due to a detected divergence in that function, the model couldn’t be implemented. On the side of time based analysis methods, a Finite Difference Time Domain method was developed for closed oblate and prolate spheroidal structures. Alternative formulas for the structure’s singularities and the condition of numerical stability were derived as well. The obtained model was then validated and used to characterize spheroidal cavities in the time and frequency domains. The method was extended later to unbounded spheroidal domain by deriving the Absorbing Boundary Conditions using the One Way Wave method. The whole model was then applied to characterize a patch antenna conformed to a prolate spheroid. Finally, an analytical solution for the transient fields in spherical multilayer media energized by spherical harmonics source and an algorithm for tracing back the path of all the reflected waves were obtained. The model was applied to different multilayer structures where the transient response was obtained and validated against a numerical solution.

Rf Probe Induced On Wafer Measurement Errors In The Millimeter Wave Frequency Range written by Mueller, Daniel and has been published by KIT Scientific Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-11-22 with Measurement categories.
Measurement at millimeter-wave frequencies are prone to parasitic effects which distort the overall results. Especially the use of RF probes introduces unknown distortions, even after the measurement setup is calibrated. This works investigates these distortions based on electromagnetic field simulations of integrated circuits in conjunction with models of the used RF probes. This allows to comprehend the observed distortions and successfully resolve the root of the distortions.

Generalized Differential And Integral Quadrature written by Francesco Tornabene and has been published by Società Editrice Esculapio this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-17 with Technology & Engineering categories.
The main aim of this book is to analyze the mathematical fundamentals and the main features of the Generalized Differential Quadrature (GDQ) and Generalized Integral Quadrature (GIQ) techniques. Furthermore, another interesting aim of the present book is to shown that from the two numerical techniques mentioned above it is possible to derive two different approaches such as the Strong and Weak Finite Element Methods (SFEM and WFEM), that will be used to solve various structural problems and arbitrarily shaped structures. A general approach to the Differential Quadrature is proposed. The weighting coefficients for different basis functions and grid distributions are determined. Furthermore, the expressions of the principal approximating polynomials and grid distributions, available in the literature, are shown. Besides the classic orthogonal polynomials, a new class of basis functions, which depend on the radial distance between the discretization points, is presented. They are known as Radial Basis Functions (or RBFs). The general expressions for the derivative evaluation can be utilized in the local form to reduce the computational cost. From this concept the Local Generalized Differential Quadrature (LGDQ) method is derived. The Generalized Integral Quadrature (GIQ) technique can be used employing several basis functions, without any restriction on the point distributions for the given definition domain. To better underline these concepts some classical numerical integration schemes are reported, such as the trapezoidal rule or the Simpson method. An alternative approach based on Taylor series is also illustrated to approximate integrals. This technique is named as Generalized Taylor-based Integral Quadrature (GTIQ) method. The major structural theories for the analysis of the mechanical behavior of various structures are presented in depth in the book. In particular, the strong and weak formulations of the corresponding governing equations are discussed and illustrated. Generally speaking, two formulations of the same system of governing equations can be developed, which are respectively the strong and weak (or variational) formulations. Once the governing equations that rule a generic structural problem are obtained, together with the corresponding boundary conditions, a differential system is written. In particular, the Strong Formulation (SF) of the governing equations is obtained. The differentiability requirement, instead, is reduced through a weighted integral statement if the corresponding Weak Formulation (WF) of the governing equations is developed. Thus, an equivalent integral formulation is derived, starting directly from the previous one. In particular, the formulation in hand is obtained by introducing a Lagrangian approximation of the degrees of freedom of the problem. The need of studying arbitrarily shaped domains or characterized by mechanical and geometrical discontinuities leads to the development of new numerical approaches that divide the structure in finite elements. Then, the strong form or the weak form of the fundamental equations are solved inside each element. The fundamental aspects of this technique, which the author defined respectively Strong Formulation Finite Element Method (SFEM) and Weak Formulation Finite Element Method (WFEM), are presented in the book.
