Aristoteles hat in seiner „Nikomachischen Ethik“ Fundamente des individuellen Lebens gelegt, die er in seiner „Politik“ im Lebensraum der Polis weiter ausleuchtet, weswegen neben der „Politik“ auch die „Ethik“ einen starken Einfluss auf diese Arbeit hat Der Staat ist für Aristoteles eine Vereinigung von Individuen, die nach einem ordnenden Überbau verlangen, da nur dieser Überbau ein Garant für Gerechtigkeit, ein Garant für die Erlangung des Glücks ist. Auch hier bildet der Mensch den Fixpunkt der aristotelischen Betrachtungen, weswegen jedes Kapitel dieser Arbeit von der Bezugnahme geprägt ist, das politische Abstraktum auf das individuelle Begehren und Ziel herunterzubrechen: das Streben nach Glück.
