This monograph provides a compact introduction into the classical, i.e. rate-independent, plasticity theory. Starting from the engineering stress-strain diagram, the concept of elastic and elasto-plastic material behavior is introduced, as well as the concept of uniaxial and multiaxial stress states. Continuum mechanical modeling in the elasto-plastic range requires, in regards to the constitutive equation, in addition to the elastic law (e.g. Hooke's law), a yield condition, a flow rule and a hardening rule. These basic equations are thoroughly introduced and explained for one-dimensional stress states. Considering three-dimensional plasticity, different sets of stress invariants to characterize the stress matrix and the decomposition of the stress matrix in its hydrostatic and deviatoric part are introduced. Furthermore, the concept of the yield condition, flow rule and hardening rule is generalized for multiaxial stress states. Some typical yield conditions are introduced and their graphical representation in different stress spaces is discussed in detail. The book concludes with an introduction in the elasto-plastic finite element simulation of mechanical structures. In the context of numerical approximation methods, the so-called predictor-corrector methods are used to integrate the constitutive equations. This is again introduced in detail based on one-dimensional stress states and afterwards generalized to the three-dimensional case. Continuum Theory Of Plasticity written by Akhtar S. Khan and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-02-28 with Science categories.

The only modern, up-to-date introduction to plasticity Despite phenomenal progress in plasticity research over the past fifty years, introductory books on plasticity have changed very little. To meet the need for an up-to-date introduction to the field, Akhtar S. Khan and Sujian Huang have written Continuum Theory of Plasticity--a truly modern text which offers a continuum mechanics approach as well as a lucid presentation of the essential classical contributions. The early chapters give the reader a review of elementary concepts of plasticity, the necessary background material on continuum mechanics, and a discussion of the classical theory of plasticity. Recent developments in the field are then explored in sections on the Mroz Multisurface model, the Dafalias and Popov Two Surface model, the non-linear kinematic hardening model, the endochronic theory of plasticity, and numerous topics in finite deformation plasticity theory and strain space formulation for plastic deformation. Final chapters introduce the fundamentals of the micromechanics of plastic deformation and the analytical coupling between deformation of individual crystals and macroscopic material response of the polycrystal aggregate. For graduate students and researchers in engineering mechanics, mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineering, Continuum Theory of Plasticity offers a modern, comprehensive introduction to the entire subject of plasticity.

The aim of Plasticity Theory is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the contemporary state of knowledge in basic plasticity theory and to its applications. It treats several areas not commonly found between the covers of a single book: the physics of plasticity, constitutive theory, dynamic plasticity, large-deformation plasticity, and numerical methods, in addition to a representative survey of problems treated by classical methods, such as elastic-plastic problems, plane plastic flow, and limit analysis; the problem discussed come from areas of interest to mechanical, structural, and geotechnical engineers, metallurgists and others. The necessary mathematics and basic mechanics and thermodynamics are covered in an introductory chapter, making the book a self-contained text suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, as well as a reference for practitioners of solid mechanics.

This text provides a review of relevant knowledge in the area of constitutive modelling of concrete steel bonds and their interaction. It discusses the problems encountered in assembling the various elements with the purpose of constructing the model of an element made of reinforced concrete. Whether physically or empirically based, very simple or sophisticated, long-established or brand new, the models presented in this book are produced in as rational a framework as possible, and are accompanied by comments on their advantages and limitations.

This handbook covers a number of the more recent developments regarding the mechanics of deforming solids. In recent years, much progress has been reported in the wide-ranging mechanical behaviour of solids under stress. Here the term stress in a solid arises from a number of external actions including direct tension, compression, pressure, bending, shear and torsion. Many of the topics covered are yet to find their way into the standard texts, which are often restricted to isotropic elasticity and plasticity. In this two-volume work, what might previously have been regarded as disparate, 'specialist' topics have been placed within a wider mechanics arena to emphasise their common, underlying principles. That arena is taken generally as one of inelasticity for dealing with the essential mechanics of these phenomena. Therein, this text brings together theory, experimental data, key references, examples and exercises, particularly those that relate to the important advances in the subject, both old and new. The presentation of material featured in this way anticipates that in their turn these additional topics will be recognised as essential material for study among engineers, physicists and applied mathematicians at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
