Due to a steady flow of requests over several years, Springer-Verlag now provides a corrected reprint of this text. It is designed to serve as a text for a first semester graduate level course for students in digital communication systems. As a pre requisite, it is presumed that the reader has an understanding of basic probability and stochastic processes. The treatment of digital communications in this book is intended to serve as an introduction to the subject. Part one is a development of the elements of statistical communication theory and radar detection. The text begins with a general model of a communication system which is extensively developed and the performance analyses of various conventional systems. The first part also serves as introductory material for the second part of the text which is a comprehensive study of the theory of transmitter optimization for coherent and noncoherent digital commu nication systems, that is, the theory of signal design.

Signal Processing written by Nirode C. Mohanty and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Signal processing arises in the design of such diverse systems as communications, sonar, radar, electrooptical, navigation, electronic warfare and medical imaging systems. It is also used in many physical sciences, such as geophysics, acoustics, and meteorology, among many others. The common theme is to extract and estimate the desired signals, which are mixed with a variety of noise sources and disturbances. Signal processing involves system analysis, random processes, statistical inferences, and software and hardware implementation. The purpose of this book is to provide an elementary, informal introduction, as well as a comprehensive account of principles of random signal processing, with emphasis on the computational aspects. This book covers linear system analysis, probability theory, random signals, spectral analysis, estimation, filtering, and detection theory. It can be used as a text for a course in signal processing by under graduates and beginning graduate students in engineering and science and also by engineers and scientists engaged in signal analysis, filtering, and detection. Part of the book has been used by the author while teaching at the State University of New York at Buffalo and California State University at Long Beach. An attempt has been made to make the book self-contained and straight forward, with the hope that readers with varied backgrounds can appreciate and apply principles of signal processing. Chapter 1 provides a brief review of linear analysis of deterministic signals.

Pulse Code Modulation Techniques written by Bill Waggener and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995 with Technology & Engineering categories.
Pulse Code Modulation Techniques brings together the theory and practice of PCM at the physical layer, where the "bits meet the silicon", so to speak. The key topics of symbol encoding, detection and synchronization are discussed, in detail, both from a theoretical and a practical standpoint. Topics which have been largely absent in text books, such as multiplexing, formatting and format synchronization, are also considered. Although PCM evolved as a communication technology, it has become an important technology in data recording. In a sense, magnetic or optical media are just specialized communication media and the key technologies discussed in this book are just as important to recording applications as to communications. PCM codes used for magnetic recording applications are discussed along with traditional communication codes. The design, analysis and implementation of a PCM system requires knowledge of very specific techniques associated with detection, synchronization and coding. The techniques have evolved from both ad hoc methods and complex theory. One of the goals of this book is to bridge the gap between theory and practice in the key techniques. Matched filters are not only discussed theoretically, but means for implementing them are also considered. The same is true with symbol synchronization.

Introduction To Communication Science And Systems written by John R. Pierce and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Technology & Engineering categories.
There are many valuable and useful books on electrical communication (References 1-5 are some examples), but they have certain disadvantages for the beginner. The more advanced books present some things in a basic way, but they are very narrow for an introduction to communica tion. The introductory books are broader but still narrow by our stan dards. Further, they often pick things out of thin air rather than derive them. This book is aimed at giving the beginner a basic understanding of a wide range of topics which are essential in communication systems. These include antennas and transmission, thermal noise and its consequences, Fourier transforms, modulation and noise, sampling and pulse code modulation, autocorrelation and power spectrum, optimum filtering, gauss ian noise and errors in digital transmission, data transmission, limits on data rate including information theory and quantum limits, and source encoding. We have not included communications traffic, switching, and multiplexing, nor protocols for digital and computer communications. For these, Reference 6 is excellent. In general, our book does not discuss the circuits used for communication or the physics of radio propagation. We assume that these will be taught in specialized courses, but such courses are not prerequisites for this one. Chapter 1 introduces the transmission formula or antenna equation and antenna directivity. Only a very basic sophomore physics knowledge of electromagnetic theory is assumed. The radar equation is also treated.

Random Signals Estimation And Identification written by Nirode Mohanty and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Social Science categories.
The techniques used for the extraction of information from received or ob served signals are applicable in many diverse areas such as radar, sonar, communications, geophysics, remote sensing, acoustics, meteorology, med ical imaging systems, and electronics warfare. The received signal is usually disturbed by thermal, electrical, atmospheric, channel, or intentional inter ferences. The received signal cannot be predicted deterministically, so that statistical methods are needed to describe the signal. In general, therefore, any received signal is analyzed as a random signal or process. The purpose of this book is to provide an elementary introduction to random signal analysis, estimation, filtering, and identification. The emphasis of the book is on the computational aspects as well as presentation of com mon analytical tools for systems involving random signals. The book covers random processes, stationary signals, spectral analysis, estimation, optimiz ation, detection, spectrum estimation, prediction, filtering, and identification. The book is addressed to practicing engineers and scientists. It can be used as a text for courses in the areas of random processes, estimation theory, and system identification by undergraduates and graduate students in engineer ing and science with some background in probability and linear algebra. Part of the book has been used by the author while teaching at State University of New York at Buffalo and California State University at Long Beach. Some of the algorithms presented in this book have been successfully applied to industrial projects.
