"Kind von Mutter in Badewanne ertränkt!". "Junge jahrelang vom Vater misshandelt!". Diese Schlagzeilen sind in den letzten Jahren leider keine Seltenheit mehr - doch warum? Wie kommt es, dass immer mehr Eltern mit der Erziehung ihrer Kinder scheinbar überfordert sind? Welche Möglichkeiten gibt es, um diese grausamen Taten zu verhindern? Diese Fragen beschäftigen mich, wenn ich immer wieder von solch schrecklichen Tragödien lesen muss. Fest steht: Die Überforderung vieler Eltern hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten deutlich zugenommen. Oftmals stehen sie ihren Kindern hilflos, unsicher und ratlos gegenüber. Auch Fernsehformate wie die "Super-Nanny" und der wachsende Markt an Elternzeitschriften und Erziehungsratgebern verdeutlichen, dass es auf Seiten der Eltern ein großes Interesse an Hilfestellung in Fragen der Erziehung gibt. Kurz gesagt: Elternbildung hat Konjunktur. Immer wieder kommt daher der Ruf nach einem verpflichtenden Elternkurs, einem Elternzertifikat, für alle Eltern auf. Denn Eltern ist laut unserer Verfassung die Erziehung ihrer Kinder anvertraut. Die Befähigung zur Erziehung soll demnach automatisch mit dem biologischen Elternwerden in Kraft treten (vgl. STRUNK 1976, S. 7). Doch dies scheint angesichts solch schrecklicher Schlagzeilen nicht der Fall zu sein. Dennoch ist der "Elternberuf" einer der wenigen Bereiche, für die eine vorausgehende Qualifikation weder als notwendig noch als erforderlich angesehen wird (vgl. PETTINGER&ROLLIK 2005, S. 10). "Es gibt wohl kaum einen 'Beruf' für den so fahrlässig wenig Aus-, Weiter- und Fortbildung in Anspruch genommen wird wie für die äußerst verantwortungsvollen Aufgaben der Elternschaft und Erziehung" (TSCHÖPESCHEFFLER 2006a, S. 9). This comparative study explores two central questions in the study of first language acquisition: What is the relative impact of structural and functional determinants? What is universal versus language-specific during development? Maya Hickmann addresses these questions in three domains of child language: reference to entities, the representation of space, and uses of temporal-aspectual markings.
