Increasing quantities of information about our health, bodies, and biological relationships are being generated by health technologies, research, and surveillance. This escalation presents challenges to us all when it comes to deciding how to manage this information and what should be disclosed to the very people it describes. This book establishes the ethical imperative to take seriously the potential impacts on our identities of encountering bioinformation about ourselves. Emily Postan argues that identity interests in accessing personal bioinformation are currently under-protected in law and often linked to problematic bio-essentialist assumptions. Drawing on a picture of identity constructed through embodied self-narratives, and examples of people's encounters with diverse kinds of information, Postan addresses these gaps. This book provides a robust account of the source, scope, and ethical significance of our identity-related interests in accessing – and not accessing – bioinformation about ourselves, and the need for disclosure practices to respond appropriately. Do liminal embodied experiences such as illness, death and dying affect literary form? In recent years, the concept of embodiment has been theorized from various perspectives. Gender studies have been concerned with the cultural implications of embodiment, arguing to move away from viewing the body as a prediscursive phenomenon to regarding it as an acculturated body. Age studies have extended this view to the embodied experience of ageing, while drawing attention to the ways in which the ageing body, through its materiality and plasticity, restricts the possibilities of (de)constructing subjectivity. These current debates on embodiment find a strong counterpart in literary representation. The contributions to this anthology investigate how and to what extend physical borderline experiences affect literary form.

The therapist's body is a vital part of the therapeutic encounter, yet there is an inherent inadequacy in current psychotherapeutic discourse to describe the bodily phenomena. Until recently, for instance, the whole area of touch in psychotherapy has been given very little attention. The Embodied Psychotherapist uses accounts of therapists' own experiences to address this inadequacy in discourse, and provides strategies for incorporating these feelings into therapeutic work with clients. Many theological interpreters of Scripture have claimed that church practices produce well-formed readers. But which practices? Greg McKinzie argues that missional hermeneutics challenges the church to include participation in God's mission among the indispensable components of readerly formation. After a quarter century of contemporary reflection on missional theology, however, the meaning of participation in God's mission remains vague. In order to explain why it is a critical hermeneutical experience, therefore, McKinzie sets out to develop a theological account of missional participation that incorporates the concepts of theosis, embodied narrativity, and solidarity. Then, in conversation with the hermeneutical phenomenology of Paul Ricoeur, the study suggests how theologically recontextualizing a model of the movement from embodied commitments to textual interpretation in terms of participation in God's mission illuminates the epistemic reconstitution of the church's theological interpretation of Scripture. Understanding participation in God's mission as theological interpretation's proper locus theologicus should reorient the notion of readerly formation because the formation of missional readers is the process in which God opens the reading community's embodied eyes of faith through the works of faith seeking understanding.

Luther's radical interpretation of the two natures of Christ, and specifically its expression through the ubiquitous presence of the humanity of Christ, is a fundamental, integral expression of that same theology. This expression of Luther's theology of the cross, Anthony asserts, provides both a fuller elaboration and an important and creative corrective with reference to recent signal expressions of the theology of the cross. As contemporary theologians of the cross have articulated (most notably Douglas John Hall and the late Alan E. Lewis), the theology of the cross, through a transformation of the divine attributes that honors the integrity of created beings, is preeminently a theology of redemption from within ("within-redemption"). In the process of outlining and analyzing these theologies of "within-redemption," Anthony exposes an impasse created by these theologies regarding the relationship of "within-redemption" to individual human narratives. It is through Luther's radical interpretation of the two natures of Christ, Anthony contends, that complete "within-redemption" can be expressed. Anthony also evaluates the Christology of Karl Barth from the perspective of his findings. Not only is Anthony's work an innovative and fresh application of Luther's Christology for contemporary discussions of the theology of the cross, but it places Luther's Christology at the cutting edge of contemporary discussions regarding the theology of the cross and its "within-redemption.
